I know what is causing the brain sliding around feeling!
CRYSTALS!
Well, technically it's
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) - you have these little calcium crystals that form normally in the ear, and sometimes they get dislodged. You feel vertigo when the crystals end up in the ear canals that help you sense direction - there's sensory overload by the weight of the crystals rolling around on the delicate mechanisms, making everything feel like it's moving more than it actually is.
I HAVE A THING WITH A NAME!
My sister actually diagnosed it last night when I was talking to her about it. (She is now my personal medical consultant, forever and ever.)
But then I went to the doctor today, and when I brought up ear crystals and asked if there was a test she was completely happy to take it on board and even made me do the
Dix-Hallpike roll to show me what I need to do to dislodge the crystals on my own.
I cannot describe how lovely she was. I wish she could be my local GP all the time.
But. I HAVE A THING WITH A NAME, AND A WORKABLE SOLUTION (IF NOT A CURE)!
My doctor was actually more concerned about my high blood pressure than the ear thing, and asked me to come back in a week or so to test it again. I'm fairly certain the anxiety over going to a doctor caused it, so I haven't scheduled a follow-up appointment yet. Then again, it's probably something you'd want to be certain of, yes?
However. THING WITH A NAME!
