I have decided to take the Sydney rotation.
Every time I've tried to continue on from this first sentence, I find a blankness. I cannot explain why exactly I'm choosing this - I can only say it feels like something I should do. Something I will regret not doing.
Anyway. That's all I will write about that for now. This entry shall instead be a randomly organised one based on what I've looked at recently on the internet.
Thing the first:
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has created a page detailing handy tips to
prepare for a zombie apocalypse (and other general natural disasters). Remember, safety first!
Thing the second:
A game called
QWOP. You get to control a runner's thighs and calves.
At 50m they give you a hurdle. This proved difficult as my technique consisted of this:
Yep. My athlete spent the 51.2m rocking back and forth on knee and foot. Speedy!
Have a video of someone playing - it's hilarious.
Thing the third:
I don't think I'd classify myself as shy any more. Shy feels like something to grow up out of, that the person who is "shy" is immature and childlike. I'm starting to like the term "reserved". After all, once I'm around people I like and know well, I am far more likely to contribute and add to conversations.
That being said, however, I really like
this article about shyness and social media. So many paragraphs worth quoting, but I'll restrict myself to one:
The problem with polite conversation, I thought, was that it required the orderly recitation of platitudes before one can say anything interesting, let alone something as original and insightful as I wanted to believe myself to be. I couldn’t bear it. I had an irrational expectation that people should already know what I was about and come to me with suitable topics to draw me out.
- The New Inquiry: Comfortably Alone
It almost makes me want to get a Facebook account again.
Miscellany:
Happy Rapture! Hope you spent the day half as industriously as I did - I swept, mopped, laundried, vacuumed and cleaned most of the things. (And then spent the day watching DVDs, a little videogaming and eating all the Pringles.)
I ALSO FIXED THE TOILET!
Okay, so. I managed to do something on Friday night that meant that the toilet cistern couldn't seem to fill up. The water kept running and running so I figured I'd call the rental agency for a plumber on Monday, I could sort of flush by pouring water in myself (and I Macguyvered a thingy to fit under the float arm so it wouldn't be continuously pouring water) so I could wait. But then! I just thought of Googling what was wrong - AND THE INTERNET FIXED IT FOR ME! (Turns out the flapper was just jammed open, I only had to nudge it closed again).
THE INTERNET IS MAGIC!
Anyone find the new Firefox a little annoying for Add-Ons? I can't find where Foxytunes lives any more! I have to type in or look up the name of my music like a sap.
