Bribery

Today has been a fairly nothingy day - I had planned to go out and do some shopping for a decent work wardrobe, but when I arrived at the empty train station I found that only buses were running due to track work this weekend.

Since it was kind of hot and I didn't really want to do a shopping expedition, I went home again.

Instead I researched some netbooks (vaguely thinking it might be useful, but no real rush until I figure out the work situation), and went through The Lucky Shopping Manual (my sister's book) and wrote down what I'll need to get for work in general, and for a week-long business trip specifically. My dad bought me orchids for getting a job.

My parents and I visited one of our neighbours today because her husband died yesterday (he was elderly and ill, had a fall and some complications developed) It was just a brief visit to express our condolences and leave some flowers. I feel bad for discussing my wardrobe when I know what she is going through right now.

I miss my sister. I'm nervous about starting work without my family nearby. My sister saved me on the assessment day by doing my makeup and making me go back and wear a camisole under a shirt that turned out to reveal my bra.

I'm worried about juggling work, looking after Basil, skating and maintaining the house all at the same time. I hate to admit it but I am thinking the skating may be the one to sacrifice while I'm figuring it out - I might drop back to training once or twice a week, and if that's too much I might even become a referee so I'd only be expected to train once a week on Saturdays.

As it is I'll be missing the Yellow Star retest, and will have to do the test who knows how many months later. I feel like I'm dropping behind so rapidly, without ever feeling like I was ever equal to the other freshies.

In other (more cheerful) VRDL news, our league was filmed recently (just the bouting skaters, so you won't see me) and will be part of a Channel 10 show called The Circle, apparently a panel show with all-female presenters (so like the Australian equivalent of The View? Is that what it's called?) I don't know, I avoid daytime television. Some of the league will also be in the audience (I can't go since I'll be in Sydney), so, tune in 10am-12pm Tuesday 16th if you can! Also, if anyone in Melbourne can record it for me I will bribe you with baked confectionary treats of some kind.
