Resolutions for 2007

I do like the holidays. I should mention three of those books are comic books; another's about superheroes (The Science of Superheroes by Lois H. Gresh and Robert Weinberg); another's about drawing comics (manga, specifically); two are knitting pattern books and the last three are actual book books. (All fantasy-ish.)

The thought of reading novels is still a bit too intimidating - I only managed to finish Anansi Boys the other day, the other two books I think I will return unread for now. The other day I had a Borders voucher, so went and got myself a knitting book. I have so many things I plan on knitting, and my shawl of the lovely wool is still unfinished. Damn it. If I don't do it tonight I don't think it'll be done by New Year's eve, which would be annoying.

You know what I'd really like for New Year's eve? I want to find a nice peaceful spot to just sit and watch the sun come up. I've never stayed up to do that, and I really want to. It feels a lot more symbolic than midnight, even though the whole idea of the new year is fairly arbitrary anyway. I may end up climbing on top of the garage to do that, or just sitting out on the mini-balcony thing we have, and hope I get a good view.

I've also decided that unlike previous years, this time I will make some resolutions. Things have changed for the better, and I want that trend to continue.
  • Join the local swimming pool and aim to build up and be swimming three (or even four) times a week by the end of the year.
  • The days I don't swim, I will go for some other form of exercise to make up for it.
  • When I'm fitter, and thus in a better position to, I will go donate blood at least once in 2007.
  • I will bring my average up in my university marks. (I've been tracking them in the past, I want to boost it in my last few semesters left.)
  • I will successfully complete my photo-a-day challenge.
  • I will put in applications to accounting companies regarding holiday work/job opportunities. I will try as hard as I can to get a position.
  • If I get a job, I will sign up to a charitable organisation (probably an animal shelter) to donate money on a regular basis.
  • If I don't get a job, I will knit at least one blanket (or something useful) and donate it to the shelter instead. (It will also help me get rid of some of my unused yarn sitting around the house.)
I figure easily measurable goals are something I can handle. Obviously there are goals like "be a better person", or "eat healthier", or "be more outgoing", but there's no way I can objectively consider it completed once the year's done. (Well, that and 'be a better person' just sounds too hard...)

We shall see how we go.
