It's a beautiful day

I am shocked. Surely British people know what gelati is? Why am I being asked what this (clearly essential) part of one's diet is?

It's a form of ice cream, basically, except true gelati has no cream. But it's still good (better, even)!

Today turned out to be an excellent day. (It was 36 degrees, English people). Still feel like your summers are hot? (End of annoying gloating-ness). The morning was spent getting some more management work done, but while I was waiting for the group I got to sit outside and sunbake a bit. I made some notes for the day during the time, too. The work itself wasn't all that thrilling, but it had to be done. We're getting there, slowly. After that, I spent some time reading Watchmen in the cool of the basement. It's nice down there, but I'm getting really itchy at the thought of spending all day inside a room without windows.

Watched a bit of Munchkin being played, then a bit of a free-form Ninja Burger.

After that, wandered down Swanston street to get gelati with the DM from the horror campaign. I had chocolate and coffee... yum. He had wildberry and lychee thingies. I'm not so adventurous in my flavours. Once again, I managed to get quite spectacularly messy, dripping some chocolate on my skirt. (I wore a skirt again today... I definitely need to get better fitting skirts.) I rarely find skirts my size, so they tend to slip down and sit on my hips rather than my waist, resulting in rather daggily long skirts that end a handspan or so below the knee. Plus the waists shift around as I walk, which is no fun.

We sat on a bench on Swanston street initially, then shifted to seats on Bourke street. There were individual seats that could be swung around, to be more or less sociable depending on one's mood. They squeaked, so I thought it best not to spin around in mine. It was tempting, though. A pigeon walked under my chair right near my foot, apparently. It looked like it was going after my foot, but then decided against it. I'm insulted my foot doesn't look tasty enough, though I'm glad I wasn't pecked. Never seen a pigeon so confident. They're used to people, but they're still a bit wary, for the most part. This one thought I was food, for a bit.

We'd planned on just heading home afterwards, but part of me just didn't want to head back home and do some uni work. So I suggested seeing Silent Hill. We wandered all the way up to Crown, only to find it not showing. We asked about The Covenant (since I'd only seen the one ad for it, and he hadn't seen anything about it). Since it was kind of horror-movie-esque we decided why not.

It was really bad! The first 10 minutes of it reminded me of The Craft, except this one is a masculine, 'tougher' version. Honest! There was tough guy music in the credits too! We had fun mocking it. There were gratuitous shower scenes and sexy dancing scenes featuring the female love-interest who's only there to be kidnapped and used as bait for Our Hero. Though there was an equal-opportunity ogling scene - the shower rooms of the boys' change rooms... though it's not quite the same when the naked boys are in the background, passed over quickly while stuff happens in the foreground, while the naked girl is on her own and the sole focus of the camera for at least 5 or so minutes...

The movie was incredibly bad, with the usual, 'oooh can we get away with a sequel to this?' ending. We came out laughing at its ridiculousness. Wandering outside into the heat again, we passed over a grassy area, and ended up on the grass not doing anything in particular. There were no clouds to pretend into cloud-shapes, so we just talked. It was good to just lie there, in this little island in the middle of the city. For some reason the traffic and noise seemed so subdued, like it didn't exist. We spent some time there, neither of us really wanting to head home immediately. It was just such beautiful weather, and it was so peaceful lying there. Good company helps too.

I've suddenly remembered why I used to not spend much time in the sun before England. I managed to forget that my skin usually reacts badly to the sun. My arms get this kind of itchy rash-bumps-thing, which I have to resist scratching, and soon my cheeks will start to get white patches on them. I got tested while in Sri Lanka, to find out what caused this. (Ever had part of your skin scraped off? It's not pleasant.) I forget what they found, but I think I was basically told that my skin is 'allergic' to the sun.

I must be the only non-redhead on the planet who needs to not spend too much time in direct sunlight. I mean, yeah, sure, most of the population probably shouldn't spend too much time in the sun, but do they have to avoid it like I do?

I can't believe I forgot this! My arms are a little itchy as we speak, and I need to go buy some sunscreen lotion. And stop lazing around in the sun... Though at least I get to wear more hats...

But still. It's not fair!

Stupid crazy sensitive skin. I blame this on my father's side of the family. Just because.

Anyway. At about 7pm we parted ways to head home, and I've been online since. It was just such a lovely day. I hope when uni's over and summer's here I'll get to have as much fun (though possibly with less sun, if I don't want to further damage my skin).
