Title: Unending Journeys
Day/Theme: 30th March 2011; here, I could walk forever
Series: Code Geass
Character/Pairing: C.C.; Lelouch/C.C.
Rating: G

C.C. is familiar with travelling. After all, it would have been insanely boring if she'd stayed in one place for centuries. (And of course, there had been the wars to consider.) She is familiar with the many modes of transportation that have been used across history, with the dirt paths and paved roads that connect villages to cities to more villages, with the cycles of days and seasons.

She is intimately familiar with the evanescence of companionship in the face of her immortality.

At one point, the purpose of her travelling had been to find a way to rid herself of her Code. She remembers having searched far and wide, made contracts with men and women, lords and slaves. She remembers that they had all failed her and died, becoming mere ashes and dust while the route to mortality eluded her at every turn.

She remembers the time when, having become tired of it all, she had found people with a wish that would in turn grant her own.

They, too, are now ashes and dust, a mere memory in the long expanse of her eternal life, and she is still denied death.

"What are you thinking about?" The sudden question draws her out of her reverie and she turns to face its source. He is eyeing her carefully, a mask of irritation pulled over his features to hide the concern lurking beneath. She's either losing her ability to hide her thoughts or he's getting better at reading them.

"Why, nothing. Nothing at all, boy," she smiles that catty all-knowing smile that she knows annoys him because it means he's not getting anything out of her, not today. In response, he snorts and mutters a soft "whatever" under his breath before shifting his gaze back onto the road they are travelling on. He knows (and she knows he knows) that if she's behaving like that it's nothing too serious - she'll tell him eventually if she feels like it - and she knows (and he knows she knows) that she'll tell him soon enough anyway.

This time, C.C. is sure the journey will be different, because she finally has someone with her who can stride across the world for the rest of forever like her.

Now and for all time, she knows that here at Lelouch's side eternity will never be a curse.
