There were no
dreams
for a while.
Then
frustrating dreams
that I did not welcome.
And then there was
this dream,
the tree
a cottonwood
over the sacred circle
songs of the wind
in its leaves,
and the drumming,
the eagle-bone whistles
whistling constant
in the bright sunshine
and heat.
I awoke
as a fire keeper
with this vision
on the third day.
This was the dream
I had waited for.
Mitakuye Oyasin.
