Oympics opening ceremonies

Feb 13, 2010 14:21

I wasn't planning on watching the opening ceremonies. I was just going to put them on in the background and read while I waited for certain rumoured singers to perform, and to see who got to light the torch. But they sucked me in.

in which i start to ramble a little )

Oh yes, the whales were spectacular. They did some really mind-blowing things with light.

Um. Massed dancing pre-adolescents?

Hallelujah is by Leonard Cohen, yes? (And I prefer Rufus Wainwright over Jeff Buckley. ;)

Well, no, I got the dancing children part, just not the context. Who had dancing children?

Well, damn. Now I've got the urge to vid Hallelujah.

I am so sad for missing it! The ceremony was in 3 a.m. my time :( I'll have to hunt down a recording somewhere, because I usually enjoy opening ceremones. :)

Yeah, the past few Olympics have been like that for me -- the events start in the middle of the night and play until mid- or late afternoon, and then it's nighttime by the time I get home from work. Oh well.

I'm sure you'll be able to find a d/l soon enough!

Ohhhh, the opening ceremonies were awesome! I loved what they did with light and projections, especially the whales. So cool!

The one bad thing (besides the malfunction with the cauldron)? I live in California, so I'm in the same timezone as Vancouver. And yet we STILL get everything on tape delay! ARGH!

They did create some very, very impressive images with just light. That was cool.

I wonder what's with a tape delay? That's weird. Are we talking seconds to minutes, or longer? (I think ctv.ca has a live feed if you're that impatient... *g*)

More like three hours. The East Coast gets everything live, but the West Coast has to wait until we get to prime time before we get to see anything. Bastards.

CTV doesn't seem to be working for me; I'm betting it's because I'm in the US. Grrrr.

That's just crazy. The events are scheduled when they're scheduled; they should show them live and then hit the highlights later on. It's not like people won't watch again, or wouldn't have missed it because of work or something.

TV execs don't know what the hell they're doing these days. Catch up with the digital age, people!

That's too bad about the live feed not working. It'd probably work for me but it requires d/l'ing something, and the way my computer's been acting recently I'm disinclined to add a potential problem. ;)

I didn't see the opening ceremony, but I remember feeling so very nostalgic when Sydney had the 2000 Summer Games. Even the tired old stereotypes made me burst with pride. :)

In any events Aussies aren't competing in, I'll be cheering for Canada, because Aussies love Canadians. :D

Also, a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you! I have something for you, which I promise I will try to send before Xmas. I also have two cards for you because I forgot that I'd already purchased one. So I'm going to send them both. :)

Exactly about the stereotypes! Although they were lacking in igloos. *g*

Canadians love Aussies too, so I'll do the same in reverse. :D

Ooh, a present! I will expect it sometime in August. :p~ And, ha, two cards! I find that ridiculously funny for some reason.

August?! Just for that I'm going to put HAPPY 60th BIRTHDAY on your package. After all, your two cards will equal that.

Hmph.

:P

Well, see, last time it arrived in October, so actually I was being quite generous. :p~

Your "Happy 60th" will balance out my sister's "You're 3!" card, and so I'm now somewhere in the middle. *g*
