Went up to Spork's for Mar's birthday. Binghamton is still a miserable snowhole, but so's Long Island lately. Had a good time, and was sorely tempted to steal her cats.

Watched a couple movies I'd gotten for Christmas ... I would recommend "Mary and Max", a good but quite sad claymation movie from Australia. I would NOT recommend "Suck", though I will give it credit for being so upfront about itself. For a movie with so many people I like (Malcolm McDowell, Dave Foley, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Moby), I'm surprised by how much I don't like it. Then again, all of those people are barely there. It mostly follows a shitty band comprised entirely of dumbasses who do nothing especially interesting who make too many clunky shoutouts to much better music and movies.

We also got drunk and watched "Amok Time", which is and shall ever be delightful. Have I mentioned I love Spock? I was also shown the first episode of Fringe, lured in by the promise of Leonard Nimoy playing someone cool somewhere down the line. So far ... well, Walter is interesting, and the premise is cool, though I can't watch it and not think about The X-Files. Sorry, Fringe, but if you're going to be about FBI agents investigating the paranormal, that's going to happen. I'm not liking it quite as much yet, but then I'm also remembering the good old days, before The X-Files started pissing me off with its relentless need to not make sense. (This is why I'm not having anything to do with "Lost" - 7 years is just too long to bullshit around). Will probably start switching between that and Babylon 5 when I'm looking for something to watch.

Kristin showed me this while I was up there ...

The likeness is uncanny, and doesn't it also make so much sense on a personality level? My interest in Harry Potter fic would be greatly rejuvenated if there were futurefics where Hermione has a sex change and starts a new life as a knowitall Muggle biologist. Think about the canon futurefic we got, and tell me that wouldn't be at least more interesting. (Even more so when you remember he's married to a Time Lord).
