heehee - words and phrases that used to mean something very ordinary, but nowadays sound completely filthy. this one -

Yesterday, his majesty's urinator, Mr. Curtis, gave a demonstration of his special urination techniques. Once, to urinate meant to swim underwater. Mr. Curtis really existed; he was the royal navy's professional salvage diver in the late 17th century, and this passage is a direct quote from a newspaper article.

amuses me in particular, since the mix-up in meanings there gets used in one of the Aubery/Maturin books ... there's a running thing where Jack thinks Stephen's being a random colossal pervert when he's actually talking about some geeky Stephen thing. I love that, when Jack's all "OMGWTF, can't I take you anywhere, stop being so embarrassing and pervy", Stephen just glares and repeats himself

I'm surprised they didn't include "knocked up", because I can remember reading a Holmes story when I was fairly little with a line about Watson knocking Holmes up, and being very very confused

also - I have to get my scanner working (or just use Mar's), because besides having some drawings I want to post, a guy in my class loaned me a bunch of books on hemp, and there's like a bazillion things I want to iconize or just post. alot of old pictures of hash users, and wackadoo propaganda stuff

aubery/maturin, history, holmes, cannabis, words
