is there any kind of community on lj dedicated to historical AUs? any fandom really, a multi-fandom archive would be fantastic. if it doesn't, I may start one, because I find those kinds of fics completely fascinating (when they're done well, anyway). or any AU comms - there's so many possibilities with AUs, but I keep coming up with a lot of goofy "what if Lord of the Rings took place in high school and was about Aragorn asking Legolas to the prom?" shit. and even that can be interesting if it's done well, but it's all very hard to find

Edit: I'm going to post links to AUs I like, under the thin premise of showing you what I mean, but really so I have the links in a tidy clump for rereading

'The Importance of Bees' by bravecows. It is a pastiche of Wodehouse's boys' school stories, utilising the characters of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin series.

Giles/Xander Regency AU by mireille719

'Five Things That Never Happened' series by Shalott. a couple different types of Aubery/Maturin AUs, all really good

'Les Clowns De Mort'. Danny Elfman/Tim Burton (and their various satellites) AU set in French resistance WW2, written by temima :D

aaand now that I'm thinking about it I've gone blank. so if you're reading this and I forgot you, I'm sorry
