ICON was pretty good this year ... focusing on panels is definately the way to go. I might host one myself next year, when I find out how you do it and if I can come up with a topic. the "Hollywood vs Historical Medeivalism" panel was very good, and so was the "Comics Becoming Movies", although that one was much looser and basically consisted of groups of nerds in a room having 3 or 4 conversations about comics (I talked mostly about Alan Moore, bits about Sandman, and the future of the Batman movie franchise). there's a lot of very clever people at the con. I much, much MUCH prefer panels that discussed, you know, the actual movie/book/show/whatever instead of self-obsessed navel-gazing about the fans. besides the fact that I've overdosed on that shit at metafandom, it ALWAYS turns wanky, especially if it's a "what's wrong with fandom" sort of panel. I saw a "when fans go too far" discussion last year that was completely obnoxious.
the Caberet was a total mess, though. every year the tech problems get worse and worse, and the acts also declined - the Bards were fine as usual, and Dean Haglund did some interesting improv, but there was a lot of crappy filler. and I don't know what was up with Voltaire's hyped-up non-appearance.

I don't feel very fannish about Firefly ... I like it, but I could care less about fic and ships and all that. but everytime I listen to the Jeeves and Wooster soundtrack, this song makes me think of Kaylee. I have a few vid ideas, though ... either the Ella Fitzgerald or David Byrne version of "Don't Fence Me In" would make good general cast vids (the Ella Fitzgerald one more Mal-centric, I think), and I have a bunch of ideas for Inara vids ('Instant Pleasure' by Rufus Wainwright, 'Love for Sale' by Cole Porter, probably this version (Ella Fitzgerald again)) ... which is odd because I'm not very fond of the character.

the idea of Radar being an Ed Gein-type serial killer who makes lamps out of skin (and covets Hawkeye for his ultimate lamp) will never ever stop being funny to me
