Please Stop Dying!

Apr 09, 2009 14:18

I was out to lunch with my mom at Zeb's when the manager walks over and says hi. Him and I are acquaintances from a ways back. He tells me that a mutual friend of ours recently died.

This past year has been a year of deaths and death scares for me and my circle of friends.

First, Half way through last semester I find out that Cavalier "Tony" Romanolo (sp?) died at 36. He was staying with another acquaintance of mine. He complained about pain in his chest and died of a heart attack before they could get him to the hospital. I used to hang out with him and several other friends. We weren't tight but his death hit some close friends hard. He was the bassist for a band called Translucia. All I could say was "Damn!" until my brain could handle the news.

Second, My grandmother had a BIG health scare around christmas time. I wrote about that earlier. She's doing OK now, but time grows short for her. I don't how well I'm going to handle it when she does die.

Third, I learned today that Raymond Placious died in his apartment on Feb 4th of heart failure. Ray and I had been more than acquaintances and close to being real friends. I've played in some of his D&D campaigns and he played in one of mine. We would have deeply geeky discussion about the merits and qualities of various role-playing games. I could count on him for conversation, advice, and someone to play games with. Now, there is a hole in the conversation at Boldo's. All I can say is "Damn!" until my brain can handle this news.

So, at this point I am going to ask those of you out there who are my friends to please stop dying! At least until labor day.

Deep thoughts, prayers and well wishes go out to the shades of;
Cavalier "Tony" Romanolo, bassist for Translucia and drinking buddy,
Eric Wujcik, writer and contributor for Rifts! and Palladium games,
E. Gary Gygax, creator (with help) of Dungeons & Dragons,
Raymond M. Placious, gamer extraordinaire and advocate,

May you all rest in peace.

friends, death
