The OH and I are feeling a bit "lost off" (as they say here in Geordieland) at the moment. Last Sunday we waved goodbye to our youngest daughter, Kate, and her boyfriend, Craig, as they set off on their six-month trip exploring India and south-east Asia. It's a wonderful adventure for them, and has been well over a year in the planning. We're very

My mum always used to say that! And that she worried more when we grew up and got married, but I'm sure the 'lost' feeling will gradually get better, especially when you start to follow their adventures on FB etc.
It would have been great if you'd entered the discussion, particularly for your feedback on Bodie and his tweeds! (Any chance of a sequel?)

I was tempted, believe me! *g* I don't really think it's a good idea for the writer to get involved in discussions like this though. Seems to me that it might put some people off expressing their true opinions if they know that the writer is taking part, hence I decided to keep schtum. As for a sequel, well I have given it quite a bit of a thought over the years. I have had a few ideas as to how the story might evolve but alas I've never actually got around to writing it. Never say never though! *g*

That was a fun discussion! I didn't quite expect to find us wandering off into the merits of tweed or twill vs cords and brogues vs boots though *g*
My eldest recently graduated and moved away, and I'm so happy for her and it's wonderful - but at the same time it takes some getting used to! I hope K and C have a fantastic trip with plenty of great adventures, throughout all of which they stay hale and happy and safe.

You certainly get pulled in two directions when your kiddiwinks strike off on their own, don't you. Kate moved away from home over 11 years ago, but she's always lived within 20 minutes walk of our house. Knowing that she's on the other side of the world is going to take a bit of getting used to!
Don't forget to let me know how you get on with the lottery, by the way... ;)

I have no problem with fic by writers still active in fandom being discussed. When one of mine has been the subject of discussion, I find I need to let folks talk away without me saying anything. I don't want to stifle the discussion.
I didn't get a chance to take part but that is one of my fav stories of yours!

Yes, I agree. I think it's best if the writer views it all from a distance and resists the temptation to get involved.
but that is one of my fav stories of yours!
Thank you! That's very good to know! *g*

I agree with you about author intrusion into the RR discussions. Well, I'm of two minds, really, as I'd also really love to have the author's input in the discussion, too. But I do think that in fannish culture, having the author right there would stifle discussion. And yet, I'd love to be able to ask questions... Yes, okay, so I'm wishy-washy! *g*
Do you know, though, that's a story of your that I haven't read? Yes, it is shocking. What happens is that I'm sort of savoring it--keeping it handy for when I have time and can just disappear into the story, because I'm pretty sure of really liking it. Only, then I forget that I have it, and years go by...until I'm reminded and then I want to savor it and wait till I have proper time, and what if I don't have this story in my pocket anymore? Okay, no one said I was a logical ( ... )

Well yes - when I first met Helen Raven I spent an awful lot of time quizzing her about Heat Trace, and she happily talked away even though it had been quite a few years since she finished it, so that was brilliant... I do think that's something different from a collective reader discussion, though. One is like a panel-of-one-author session at a Writer's Festival, the other isn't?

I think I'd be a nervous wreck if I wasn't able to keep tabs on them! *g*

Maybe there could be a Q & A section on the Comm...
Because I'm pretty darn sure that I'm really going to like it.
Oh dear, now I'm all nervous in case you hate it!

I love your story and I only wish I had had more time to really discuss more deeply. But, the thread remains there - discussions continue on! Add me to the list of those asking about a sequel, please. :)

Oh yes, indeed! It really is the trip of a lifetime for them!

I haven't had the pleasure of reading 'The Secrets Beneath' yet, but I'm about to add it to my reading list. It's always nice to hear someone enjoys your work.

Oh yes, it's a godsend. I've already had a phone call from them via Skype, and they're posting on Facebook every day, so I know exactly what they're getting up to! *g*

Thank you! I really hope that you enjoy it!
