KCL - Days 16-25: For Whom the Plague Tolls

Sep 29, 2008 02:18

So, I'm just going to give you a summary of what's been happening over the past week or so, because honestly, it would be very boring if I did daily posts on how I mostly slept and popped a lot of cough drops.

Monday the 29th was good.  I was feeling a bit sniffly, but I had already booked tickets to the opera, so I decided to go out anyways.  The opera was La fanciulla del West, a Puccini opera that takes place in the Wild West.  I went el cheapo and got the standing section seats, but I could still see most of the stage, so it was all good.  The opera was beautiful, the actors and actresses were all strong in voice and presence, and I enjoyed myself immensely, even while sickly and exhausted.

Tuesday, the plague really started to kick in.  I was still convinced that it would go away quickly, but I broke out the two packs of cough drops I brought with me (I'm always prepared for plague.) The care package Mom sent me finally got here on Tuesday as well, and I brought the cookies down to dinner to share with everyone.  They were amazed, and leapt on them like a pack of hungry wolves.  After dinner, Alma, Ed, Alex, Brian, Mollie, Jodie, Mike, and I went bowling at the Elephant & Castle shopping center.  Elephant & Castle has a reputation for sketchiness, but we found our way without any trouble (we were in a large group, as well, and honestly, everywhere around our dorm is sketchy -- we just happen to be in that kind of area.)

Wednesday was unremarkable.  More plague.

Thursday, the plague got worse.  I had class and lunch with Stephen, but after that I relegated myself to my room and swore to stock up on medicine the next day.

Friday, I went and got medicine.  Sunday, I got more medicine.  Up until Monday, I bought and tried the following remedies, desperate for relief from the worst case of plague I had had since NCSSM:

Cough drops, two different kinds
Robitussin
Sudafed, both in pill and liquid form
Tylenol Cold
A plug-in camphor/menthol emitter

Monday, I finally made an appointment with the doctor.  Because I'm not covered by the health system (I'm there for under 6 months), I had to pay 50 POUNDS just to be seen.  And the only thing the doctor told me was that I probably had sinusoidus, and I needed to take nasal spray for it.  Luckily the nasal spray was only 2 pound.  It didn't even help very much -- it wasn't even until Wednesday that I even felt marginally better.
