HILLY KRISTAL R.I.P
I have just heard that the owner/manager and promoter of legenderary new york punk venue C.B.G.B,S ,hilly kristal has died in his 70,s from complications arising from lung problems,its a sad loss,kristal was instrumental in giving bands such as the dead boys,television,talking heads,the ramones not too mention many other vitally important new york punk acts a venue to play in,a place where like minded people could meet and co-create and generally have a place to hang out when no other venue would take these bands on.
hilly kristal was also a lover of rock and roll and through him he bridged the gap between the american punk scene and the british punk scene in the late 70.s,he didnt care about cool haircuts or expensive street clothes,what mattered was that like minded and passionate musicians and artists had a platform both to play from and evolve from,and could belt out 3 chords and shouty vocals with total passion,from cbgbs emerged,the lords of the new church,blondie,the damneds first exposure in america,and later on a whole host of new wave acts desperetly needing guidance and a place to"belt it out"
