I'm going to update as much as I can during the remaining ten minutes of our break. Here's a quick overview:
MONDAY
Class was fine. My RT piece went well and was well-received. Also performed Mitch's piece, also well-received. After class went on a tour led by Callum from St. Paul's Cathedral, through the streets of London, and eventually to and around Shakespeare's Globe. I SAW TECH AT THE GLOBE!!! Seriously, we were allowed in to watch a short tech rehearsal for the actors jumping (bungee-ing) from the net at the top of the Globe. It was amazing! Spent a good chunk of money at the giftshop, but I think it was well worth it. I'm actually wearing a black zip-up hoodie of King Lear with red print. (Break ended, class ended, now I can write again!) Also got a few gifts for Mum, Margaret, and Alex. Afterwards, saw Timon of Athens, which was done...interestingly? Differently? It was good, but not quite what I was expecting from a Shakespearean tragedy. (Also, Callum had worked with the lead actor, who played Timon. I swear he knows at least one actor in every production in London and the surrounding areas.)
TUESDAY
Class again went well. Performed Michael's piece, which (again) was well-received. Afterwards went to the theatre where Billy Elliot is playing. Got a ticket for Tuesday night first row center of the first balcony/dress circle. Perfect! Went to Harrods (amazing and huuuuge!) for a while and bought delicious desserts with Donna and Ryan so that we could split each three ways to try all of them. While trying to search for a place to sit and eat, we were informed that those desserts were sold as "take-away" meaning we couldn't eat them in the store. Instead we stopped at a small coffee cafe in the store. I got afternoon tea with clotted cream, scones and blackcurrant jam/jelly. So fun! So delicious! So British! Shopped a bit (through everything was way out of my price range - boo designer clothing!) and got a little something for Mum (again) because it was something she specifically asked for. (Hint, hint.) As it was getting close to the show, we (Donna, Ryan, Steve and I) headed to what has been voted "the best fish & chips in London." It was quite good and fairly inexpensive (comparatively aorund the city). After our scrumptuous meal we headed to the theatre, which was practically across the street. The show was so good! What talent from such young actors/dancers/singers! I don't even know what order to put those three in because they were just so wonderful. Really. I bought a program and Ryan got the CD, which I will be "borrowing" from him for a short period of time. Came back to the hotel and ate our desserts from Harrods. Almost worth the cost. (Like I said, everything was expensive!)
WEDNESDAY
Now it is Wednesday. I just got out of class after performing Basia's piece (like the others, it went well). and rehearsing Mary's piece and our final for Friday. I have tea this afternoon in the hotel after Ryan, Donna and I (and possibly a few others?) go to Leicester Square to pick our tickets for tonight's show, Zorro, which I have heard nothing but great reviews for from everyone in the group. Oh! I almost forgot - I spoke to Callum to see if he could pick up a program from The 39 Steps for me, and I would give him money today to purchase it for me. He smiled and said it wouldn't be a problem, since two of the cast members (the other two men) were officially replaced this week, so they had a new program. Callum said that he might be able to pick up one from the old(er) cast (of last week, mind you) for free. He's so great and helpful! (And I'm glad I didn't pick one up this past weekend because it would have been one of the new(er) programs. Thanks, Steve!)
That is (and has been) my Wednesday. Yay!
