Hey...
Yesterday was an amazing time. I couldn't believe this tour came to my town. I don't live in a major market like Chicago, New York or Toronto. I live in a town of 350 000, but the tour still came and it was rad.
6 July 2003--Call the Office--London, ON
Seconds to Go
Anberlin
Autopilot Off
The Movielife
Further Seems Forever
Seconds to Go: I was interviewing Anberlin while they played, but I caught their last 2 songs, and it was good to see my friend Jordan who plays guitar for them. He's not coming back to school next year in order to focus on the band.
Anberlin: These guys are rad. This show was their first international show and I was their first international interview. I learned a few interesting things, firstly that their drummer is only 16 years old...as in born in 1987!!! The rest of the band is older than I am..."Anberlin" is what the lead singer wanted to name his daughter, and it comes from telling people that he wanted to backpack around London, Milan and Berlin. And Berlin was heard "Anberlin". Anyway, they played an alright set, and played "Change the World (Lost Ones)" for me. Myself and the one other kid that came to see them rocked out like idiots.
Autopilot Off: These guys played an ok set integrating old and new material, but they use way too much profanity between songs. I mean, it's alright every once and a while, but every second word?
The Movielife: I never really got into The Movielife. It's kinda weird because they fit right into the genre most of the bands I listen to fall into. They played a pretty good set, the mesh hat/studded belt crowd was happy. The guitar player was extremely drunk and fell off the stage during their first song.
Further Seems Forever: I still can't believe these guys came to my town. The venue seemed a bit too small for them, but it was still rad 'cause they were in my town. They didn't play a lot of old material, but they did play "Against my Better Judgement" for me which was totally awesome and unexpected, because they haven't been playing it, but they played it for me because they thought the interview we did was pretty rad. It was rad, all in all a really good time.
Another pretty funny moment was setting the merch prices with the American roadies who had no idea what to charge in Canadian money. So if any of you guys were at the show yesterday and mad about merch prices, blame me. My buddy Ryan who plays in LUCERIN BLUE was at the show and I hadn't seen him for a really long time. LB is going out on tour soon in the states with 7-10 SPLIT and .rod laver, so go watch them if they come to your town.
