Day 2.

Jun 03, 2013 12:54

It still hasn't stopped raining and the situation is getting worse. My sister was told not to go to work this morning (she'd have to swim there so yeah) so she and her boyfriend and Eda are safe, warm and dry in their little flat on the hill. Marek's Uni exams were cancelled and there is water flooding down the street where the Faculty of Philosophy is. :/ At least 5 have people died since yesterday. And it's really very cold for this time of the year (about 7°C) so that's not making the situation any better. A part of the Prague zoo had to be evacuated. They were ready for the situation, though, so they made it in time. They were badly affected by the flood in 2002.

On Wednesday, 14th August the water level reached at the deepest places the height of more than 10 metres.
...
Unfortunately, we did not manage to save all the animals. We evacuated 1,029 animals but the other 134 did not survive the flood. We had to kill four animals ourselves, 40 birds died even a couple of days after the flood due to the stress they had been through.

It was horrifying to watch it because they unfortunately had to shoot an elephant. There were so many people working for DAYS trying to save him but it started drowning and panicking and they were left with no other choice.

This is from yesterday. Apparently the statue is now completely submerged.

Anyway, I know that we are not the only ones affected by this so I just wanted to say that I hope that all of you affected are safe (and warm).
