Clare and I are in Paris. We arrived safely, got to our hostel, interacted with the trainee who spoke no English, had dinner, went to bed, were woken by the other guy who works there who a)speaks English, b)actually cared that we had not, in fact, been charged any money, and c)is very handsome, in an 80s-movie-about-fighter-pilots sort of way. Then we checked in for real.
Yesterday morning we met up with people from IES--John, Keith, and Paula--and did Tourist Things including seeing Notre Dame de Paris, the Louvre (including, yes, the Mona Lisa, although Clare and I agree with Mrs Markey that Delacroix's Raft of the Gericault is much more worthwhile.
Then, seeing as it was Clare's birthday and the rest of us were sick of having budgets and living on the pound, we went to L'Alsace, a v. expensive restaurant, and had a VERY nice dinner. After we got the check we agreed that budgets are in fact quite lovely and we would stick to them from now on; but it was a very nice dinner.
[skipping ahead b/c time is money and I can't afford much]
Clare and I find our hostel both charming and secure, meanign that even with the key we cannot open the door. it seems to have a trick to it which only the one Manchester girl has mastered. We will perservere, but also nothing will be stolen, because even those of us who live there cannot get in. Huzzah!
things that wre funny, but did not actually happen:
-me crushing japanese tourists with my luggage godzilla-style while yelling SUMIMASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN after they cut me off in the luggage queue
Hope you're all well. Catch you later.
