Taking A Chance

Ok so all new fic, all new couple. I always used to do Ryan and Marissa fics, but something inside of me fizzled out a bit with writing for them, i will still write, and finish off those fics i started, i will just have to get back in that mood before i do. So after Marissa died on the OC i figured i needed a new couple to get hyped up about, so i sumbled upon Prison Break which was in its 2nd Season. I bought the season 1 DVD and fell in love with the Michael and Sara relationship, such an interesting way to start a relationship and it caught me. So after watching season 1 and season 2 i felt i could write a fic about my new fav couple. So this is set in season 1, after the riots in episode 6 and 7. I wanted to take a different direction on something i thought of after those episodes. So here goes...

Title: Taking A Chance (1/??)
Characters/Pairings: Michael/Sara, Scure, Bellick, Nurse Katie
Genre: Drama/Angst, slight fluff
Summary: Set in season 1 after the riot episodes. Something happens this time that Michael could not stop from happening...
Author's Note: Characters will come and go, but this is a Michael and Sara fic.

Michael sat in the imfirmary, looking out the window, going though his plan over and over, he still had the right time to do it all in. The door opened and Sara stepped in, holding the tray with Michaels neddle on and insulin. She smiled briefly at him and walked over, sitting down on her stool she looked up at him.

"How are you?" he asked her sincerly, after the riot he fiqured it would be Katie who would be taking his shot for him.

Sara looked at him, "Im fine....thanks to you" she said with a slight smile.

"I really hope you dont think you owe me anything" he stated.

Sara shook her head and looked at him, “I owe you” she said dismissing him, “..I owe you everything” she said almost sadly and then looked down again, picking up the cotton wool and dabbing the numbing solution on his arm.

He still sat staring at her, “I didn’t think you would come in today” he said, as he watched her put the cotton wool in the bin then turn back to him.

“I love my work Michael, im not going to shy away from it, I cant” she said truthfully. Picking up the needle she held his arm and stuck it in, injecting the insulin.

Michael nodded, “You’re a good doctor” he said keeping his eyes fix on her and not the needle in his arm.

She laughed a little, “Thank you, but all I do is inject a needle into you everyday, how do you know im a good doctor?” she asked.

Michael smiled, knowing he knew more about her before coming into Fox River, reading newspaper articles and anything he could find on her, he knew she was a good doctor, but he couldn’t have her know that, “Just intuition I guess” he shrugged.

Sara pulled out the needle and got another piece of cotton wool, “Here, hold that” she said pressing it onto where the needle had just been, he put his hand over it and watched her pick up the tray and walk over to the sink, she placed it down and walked back over to him, writing in his file.

“Ok were all set, I will see you tomorrow Mr Scofield” she said as she finished writing and looked up at him.

“You sure?” he asked then a smooth smile came across his face, “don’t you wanna do a physical?”

A genuinely wide smile came over Sara’s face and she laughed, “No Michael, you can leave now”

“Ok” he said standing up, “but I thought I had to have a physical?” he asked again.

Sara opened his file and looked down, she read across the page then looked up with what she was trying to cover with a hidden smile; “You have your shot tomorrow and a physical, yes”

Michael nodded and smiled, “I’ll look forward to it Doctor” and casually moved out the room, leaving Sara shaking her head, but a smile that couldn’t seem to disappear from her face.

Michael entered his cell and leaned against the wall.

“Hey Man” Scure said looking at him from a magazine he was reading on the top bunk, “when’s the next time you wanna go through?” he whispered to him.

Michael looked up, “Tonight” he said looking out at the other cells.

“Cool Papi” he nodded. Scure jumped off his bunk to where Michael was. “By the way, you went to the sick bay when the riot went off, why?” he asked curiously.

“Why do you want to know?” Michael asked back.

Scure shrugged, “I don’t know, its just strange, all this stuff goes off, we could be working together on getting through the wall, and you disappeared to sick bay, it doesn’t make sense, you wanna get out of here as quickly as the rest of us” he said and leaned on the bunk, “I mean, if you had been here maybe that CO wouldn’t of died”

Michael’s eyes darted to him, the anger boiling inside of him, “Maybe so, but someone else would have died”

It suddenly clicked in Scure’s head and he nodded, “Sorry man” he said putting his hands up, “I get it now”.

“Scofield!” Bellick shouted, “infirmary!”

Michael couldn’t help but let a smile go across his face and he stood up, waiting for the bars to open.

“Good morning boss” Michael said with a smile upon his face, just trying to wind Bellick up.

“Cut the crap Scofield and get moving” he said pushing him along.

They walked all the way to the infirmary, Michael looked for Sara but couldn’t see her, he sat down and waited. Bellick was watching him from the other side of the room, keeping an eye on him.

The door to the office opened and Nurse Katie stepped out, “Michael Scofield, your next” she said and walked back in.

Michael frowned slightly and Bellick walked over and got him by the arm and moved him inside the room then closed the door behind him.

“Take a seat Mr Scofield” Katie said preparing the tray for him.

Michael walked over and sat down. Where was Sara?

Katie walked over and sat down on the stool and went through the normal routine, “How are you feeling today Mr Scofield?” she asked.

“Im fine” he said then looked around the room, “Dr Tancredi in the sick bay?” he asked, wanting to know her whereabouts.

Katie stopped what she was doing and looked at him, “No she’s not”

Michael knew how to read people and an instant look at the nurse he could tell something wasn’t right.

“Where is she?” he asked.

“Im sorry Mr Scofield I cannot tell you that” Katie said sticking the needle into his arm.

“Where is she?” he asked again, an urgency in the question more than the last time.

Katie shook her head, “Sara told me about you”

“Is she alright?” he asked, this time Katie looked at him, she heard the vulnerability in his voice, she pulled the needle out and put the cotton wool on his arm.

“I shouldn’t tell you” she said shaking her head.

Michael’s eyes widened, suddenly he was scared, he was scared about what Katie was about to tell him. He looked out towards the door and noticed Bellick talking to another CO, he leaned forward towards her, “You need to tell me” he whispered.

“She told me you saved her” Katie said, “from the prisoners in the sick bay”

Michael nodded his head, he was confused, where was she going with this?

Katie looked down and shook her head, “All I can say is, you weren’t there this time” and she stood up, water in her eyes.

Michael immediately looked up and stood up with her, “What happened?!” he urged her, he knew what she meant, but he seemed to go straight into denial.

Katie walked over to the door and opened it, “Were all done” she told Bellick. He nodded and walked into the room.

“No” Michael said forcefully, “were not done”

Katie looked at him wondering what he was doing.

“You’ve had your shot Scofield so its time to go” Bellick said walking towards him.

“Im due for a physical, check my file” he said glaring at Bellick.

Katie sighed and picked up his file from the desk, she flipped through it, then looked up, “Yes im sorry captain, I missed that”

Bellick sighed, “You people always seem to find ways of wasting my time” he said and left the room.

Michael watched Bellick leave and moved over to Katie, “I need to know” he told her.

“Why?” she asked quickly, looking at him, wanting an answer.

Michael hesitated, he didn’t know what to say. He was stuck, for the first time. Michael Scofield didn’t know what to say.

“That’s what I thought” Katie said, “lift your shirt up please”
