Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
I wrote A LOT more than I thought I would. Due to stuff in my personal life I was off work for about 2/3 of the year, so that kind of helped me write a lot more than I could have ever predicted.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
I wrote 2 Winner fics last month, honestly I had never considered writing for a fandom outside of Exo. For pairings probably Chenyeol,Kaibaek, and Sesoo.
What's your own favorite story of the year?
Ah, this is a very difficult question. Probably The Masquerade for the sheer amount of effort I put into that fic. Also because I love the Regency setting, it was a dream to write a fic based in this time period.
Did you take any writing risks this year?
Yes. I joined exchanges and fests for the first time. I branched out to new writing platforms (AO3). I wrote pairings I didn't ship (I went beyond Xiuhan *gasp*). I wrote genres I wasn't a fan of (horror). I took a lot of risks, but I am glad that I did. I feel like I have become a better writer because of it.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?
I know I won't have as much time to write next year, but what I hope is that I don't lose the gains I made this year in terms of style and content.
From my past year of writing what was...
My best story of this year: The Masquerade or 1+1 = Oh Sehun
My most popular story of this year: Hm, that is tough to say. Most popular on AO3: Hybrid Fancy. On AFF: The Masquerade. From fests/exchanges I joined (based on comment count): Love is a Beach from Yifantasy.
The story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: 1+1 = Oh Sehun. I love that story and had so much fun with it. I feel like because the pairing is a less popular one it doesn't get enough love.
The most fun story to write: Love in a Cold Climate (weird animal crack), Love is a Beach (dorky Kris humor), A Bitter Pill to Swallow (Lu vampire), or The Masquerade (the drama, the romance, THE XIUHAN).
The story with the single sexiest moment: The Masquerade. There are a lot of sexy moments in the fic but my favorite would have to be the first kiss.
The most "holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Blood Brothers or The Red Shoes. Blood Brothers was a very gruesome story all around. The Red Shoes was pervy in a weird way - I didn't know I had that in me.
The story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: We Will Make It, We Always Do. While this is a very short oneshot the characters are dealing with a huge strain in their lives - poverty. Understanding how to portray that while still conveying that they are happy really shifted how I thought about the couple.
The hardest story to write: [redacted] for the Luhan fic exchange because it was a very hard plot to nail down. I was a mess when it came to figuring out how I wanted the story to feel. The Writer Says I Like You was hard as well. I just couldn't find the motivation for that fic most of the time. I had to really yell at myself to write it.
The biggest disappointment: I have two and seriously I still think about them a lot. The Red Shifts could have been a lot better if I had only put the time into that fic. I feel like I majorly failed at telling a gripping and interesting sci fi story when I had set it up very well. The second major disappointment was Lie to Me. I took a prompt and got far too serious and all over the place with it. I feel like I wrote 30k worth of word vomit with that fic.
The biggest surprise: How much love the fic Love is a Beach received. I wrote that one night and had fun with it but I never expected it to be so popular. The same goes with the fic Hybrid Fancy.
The most unintentionally telling story: We Will Make it We Always Do. There is a huge piece of my childhood in that fic.
Favorite Opening Line(s):
"The music drifted from the ballroom, the din of greetings and deep conversations carried along with the light melody into the cool night air." - The Masquerade
"Minseok swam lazily towards his family." - Love in a Cold Climate.
"Architects are assholes." - 1+1 = Oh Sehun
"The words were strangled, an exhausting method of speech born of his posture. “Did you know?” Jongin sucked in a deep breath, steadying himself. “Monks in Russia used to seal themselves in an earthen grave as penance.” Exhaling, steadying himself he continued, “And die like that.” - A Beautiful Burden
"He stared at the line on the heart monitor, watching as it jumped across the screen." - Listless
Favorite Closing Line(s):
"Minseok turned his head, went back to staring at the ceiling. Luhan rambled on, and on, and on. Minseok didn’t listen." - Listless
“I know, I know. Cut him into pieces. Hey, thanks again. I really appreciate it.” Mr. Byun hung up, leaving Midas to cradle the phone, smiling slightly to himself." - Ransom Makes the Man
“You should be thankful you are cute.” Luhan smiled. Maybe he could put up with the names - assuming he woke up to Minseok’s smile every day. Okay, he could totally put up with them." - Hybrid Fancy

“You tasted fucking amazing.” - A Bitter Pill to Swallow
Favorite 5 Lines from Anywhere:

“Your favorite, right? Babe-soar?” Yifan smiled hopefully, waiting." - Love is a Beach
“I kind of messed everything up yesterday, I owe you. Can you maybe not untie me, not yet?” Minseok tried to hide the smirk, the teasing smile, but failed miserably." - The First Time
“I bet he smells like baby powder, manliness, and dreams.” Baekhyun cooed, really laying it on thick. “Does he?” - 1+1 = Oh Sehun
“I would like to announce my engagement.” Luhan stood in front of Minseok. His gaze never left Minseok’s eyes as he spoke. His voice grew loud so all around them could and would hear." - The Masquerade

Fic-writing goals for 2016: As I mentioned before I hope that I can build upon the gains I have made over the last year. I feel like my writing has improved and hopefully I do not lose those gains even if I am writing less. Another major goal is finishing Exordium. Wish me luck!
A huge thank you to all of the readers and commenters over the last 12 months! You have given me so much encouragement I AM NOT WORTHY. A special thank you to Rose for being there through all of my flailing around, beta-ing stories, and just telling me when I need to write. THANK YOU BCF!
