I've neglected LJ this week: I've been busy both at home and in the evenings.
On Wed evening, I went to the residents' association committee meeting; this was my 4th meeting as representative of our Neighbourhood Watch local scheme.
The gatherings are always long (over 2 hours) because often people go off on a tangent. And they can be funny too; for instance last time, somebody mentioned Lynne and Jennifer's old bathtub temporarily parked in their front garden, and Neil stated that the reason they were changing the tub was that it wasn't big enough for them to bathe together! They was a short intake of breath before people laughed and someone said it was too much information! Oh Lynne and Jennifer are so going to kill him!! Ha!
Last night Adrian (
london1952) and I went to see
Stardust at the cinema. It was a silly film but at the same time great fun. Michelle Pfeiffer was great (and very tongue-in-cheek) in yet another evil role and Robert De Niro hilarious in the role of a gay pirate.
Tonight we are meeting Ross and Jim for a pizza, and tomorrow we are off to Neil and Bobby's for their "Murder at the Manor" mystery evening! We will be 12 neighbours (of whom 6 gay men and 2 lesbians!!) and we have all received information about our roles and dress code. It should a fun evening!
On Sunday evening, we are going to
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BAFTA!
On Sunday 28th October, for one night only, the New London Theatre will be transformed into a galaxy of stars as international celebrities from both television and film gather to toast BAFTA on the Academy's 60th birthday. Hosts Michael Parkinson and Joanna Lumley will oversee proceedings which will feature comedy sketches from television's funniest comedians, cast reunions from some of the nations most loved shows and favourite songs from the movies.
Featuring:
Victoria Wood, Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli, Sir Ben Kingsley, Miss Piggy, The Kumars, the stars of Billy Elliot, Armstrong and Miller in a tribute to Morecombe and Wise, the cast of Upstairs Downstairs, Stanley Baxter, Melvyn Bragg, Rita Tushingham and many more!
Happy Birthday BAFTA will be shown on ITV1 in November.
The show is in support of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and UNICEF, the world's leading organisation working for children and their rights
(unfortunately, it's jacket and tie).
[Many thanks to
bullchef for mentioning the show in his journal or we'd have missed it]
I've been feeling slightly under the weather in the last couple of days (head cold and sore throat) but I simply cannot be ill!!
