Adrian (
london1952) is in Leeds: thankfully, his Mum is feeling better and she's out of hospital.
I had to keep myself busy, so:
- on Friday night, I donned some leather and went to The Backstreet. I got home late (well for me!) at 2:30 am
- yesterday, I did the shopping, watched a few (8!) episodes of the Simpsons (season 10) and cooked myself a nice (and huge) lentil and sausage stew (I had some sausages in the fridge, and really fancied polenta; they didn't have any but I found some delicious Umbrian lentils)
- today I'm planning to take some pictures of London at sunset from Waterloo Bridge. Last week, we had some wonderful sunsets but I didn't have my camera and was stuck on a train. There's no guarantee that the sunset will be nice this evening but it's worth a try (and I'm going to meet Adrian at Kings Cross anyway)
The title refers to the discovery of a family of mice in the garden/tool shed.
We spotted a mouse a few weeks ago but now she has a family. She built her nest in a garden tool bag with pieces of string and paper bags, and has feasted on lots of bulbs.
I saw the baby mice (and tried - unsuccessfully - to photograph them) and they are just so cute, straight out of a Beatrix Potter's book!
Sadly, I cannot really allow them to live and multiply. London already has a huge mouse and rat population. In 2 of my the 3 flats I lived in, I had mice and you see them in the underground stations, always near the tracks and frequently even on the platform.
Adrian also can testify that what is considered an urban myth is true. He found a live rat in the the W.C. in the basement of his previous office!
The last two winters we also spotted signs of mice in the cupboard under the stairs (the floorboards - Victorian and full of gaps - are shared with the other half of the house).
So yesterday I went out to buy some poison. Now I know how Catherine de' Medici must should have felt (if she was really responsible of all the crimes she was accused of, and had a conscience).
Never trust an Italian with poison that's what they say... now what shall I make tonight for dinner? LOL!
Thsi reminds me that only last week Adrian bought me a sweet mouse:
(almost too good to eat)
