A birthday at Kew

Mar 10, 2014 18:54

It was my birthday 3 weeks ago and Adrian organised a day out at Kew (I had taken the day off work).

I hadn't been to the Botanic Gardens for a few years now and it was really nice to be there again.

The weather wasn't great but at least it stayed dry!

The Orchid Festival was on at the Princess of Wales Conservatory.

What fantastic displays!

After a bite to eat, we wandered around the gardens more.

The crocuses were already out!

Last time I visited, the treetop walkway wasn't open yet, I believe.

Of course we had to climb it, even though I'm sure it is not as interesting as when the leaves are out

The Temperate House

is closed until 2015 for restoration.

We visited the Palm House

before going to a small pavilion to see the International Garden Photographer exhibition, which was really interesting and inspiring.

A few hours in the gardens built up a certain appetite, and it was my birthday after all, so Adrian treated me to a champagne afternoon tea at the nearby "Maids of Honour"

with an interesting history

Nice touch the cold champagne glasses. And the strawberries were yummy!

And here are the famous 'Maids of honour' tarts. Scrumptious! They are topped with cheese.

Thank you Adrian for a wonderful day out!!
