Anniversary at the theatre

Apr 22, 2012 22:54

Yesterday it was our 5th wedding (civil partnership, if you must be picky) anniversary.

We didn't plan much for the week-end as we've been busy on a little project of ours for the last fortnight.

We exchanged cards and small presents (mine has already been digested - I know I said I was going to have one chocolate a day, but well moderation is not my forte!), and then we went into town to travel back in time.

The canvas (a reproduction of a painting of a Thames pageant) covers a wall outside London Bridge station, just opposite The Shard, the new skyscraper.

We didn't travel that far back.. our destination was the Menier Chocolate Factory and the 70s

The stage looked so realistic! When we left, I found it hard not to wander on stage and finish off the cheese and pineapple on sticks - I'm sure that Adrian had his eye on the gin! lol

The Menier Chocolate Factory is a small theatre (and art gallery) but attracts some very good productions with quite big names; many will then go on to the West End.

The play was excellent and funny (but dark), and perhaps an unusual choice for an anniversary as it is certainly not a manifesto for wedded bliss!

A very funny moment was when the sofa 3 of the characters were sitting on, slid slightly with a loud squeak and the audience roared with laughter. Poor actors! They really struggled to stay in part which made the audience laugh even louder.

The theatre is next door to the former home of XXL and a stone's throw from the former Hop Exchange

It was a great little outing.
