Viva Verdi!

Oct 13, 2011 16:10

We haven't been to the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden in years (although I frequently walk past it in the morning).
Last time we were there, it was to see Puccini's "La fanciulla del West" and we walked out in the interval due a combination of extreme discomfort brought on by our cheap seats, very restricted view of the stage and boredom!

Tonight we're going to see (well listen to!) my favourite opera "La Traviata" - hopefully we'll survive the 3 hours 10 minutes in the £13 seats!
In the early years of our relationship, Adrian and I went to see one production of Traviata every year.

I love this opera and today as I was walking to the gym in my lunch break, I was even quietly humming some of its arias.

Of course, it's a tragic love story with a tragic end.
You can read a short synopsis here (and I have just e-mailed the ROH to let them know of a typo on the page, something that has driven me nuts since moving to England. I'm curious to see if they'll correct it or not).
