Tea for thirty-three

May 03, 2010 19:37

Yesterday we threw a little afternoon tea party for neighbours and friends.

We managed to squeeze 33 people in our little home (we couldn't use the garden as it poured with rain - although it stopped at some point allowing the very few smokers to go outside for a 'fag')

The lovely David and Ricardo (bazanges ) joined us for the week-end

Adrian (london1952 ) and I enjoyed all the baking.

I started on Friday night with a Linzer torte (hazelnut/cinnamon/cloves pastry case filled with raspberry jam and sprinkled with almond flakes

Then on Saturday I baked tea bread, and pistachio macaroons (sandwiched with pistachio butter cream) and I made some mini "Zuppa inglese" in cups (an entire bottle of rum went in 24 of these cups - one of our friends called them "The little cups of love!")

Adrian made a chocolate Guinness cake and a strawberry and chocolate ganache sponge cake

Adrian spent most of Sunday morning baking fruit scones, and cheese scones, and I assembled mini lemon curd and mandarin tartlets

Then Adrian made all the sandwiches

and arranged everything on the table

It was a lot of work but we enjoyed it. All our guests seemed to have a great time!

Richard (bazanges ) and Carlos

We drank lots of tea but a number (28) of bottles of sparkling wine were found empty a few hours later!
