We watched this film last night in Mayfair.
It didn't feel right to watch such violence in this posh part of London - but then maybe not that out of place as the cinema is opposite the Saudi Arabia embassy. I bet that those walls could tell some stories (but I'm digressing).
We read the first two books of the late Stieg Larsson's
Millennium Trilogy last summer after seeing the first one mentioned on
gorkabear 's journal. We were both so engrossed in our reading that we almost didn't notice all the naked men around us on the beach in Sitges!
It's always interesting to see a film adapted from a book. Sometimes it's a disappointing experience but this wasn't the case with this movie.
In the 2 and a half hours they couldn't squeeze everything in but I think they did a great job of the main plots.
Even though we knew what was going to happen, we still jumped in our seats a couple of times.
I enjoyed the fact that the film was in Swedish with English subtitles. Adrian said that he heard that due to the huge success of the books, the next two films will be American - I wish they weren't.
The scenery was stunning but Swedish - at least to my southern European ear - didn't quite sound like the language of love, which is just as well there was very little love in that film!
The Swedish title (Men who hate women) sums it all up.
I'd definitely recommend this tense and gripping certificate-18 thriller.
