How lazy of me! I haven't posted the pictures of the huge lunch that my Mother prepared on Boxing Day.
A little morsel of Insalata Russa (Russian Salad)
The end of a grissino (breadstick)
Were all the portions so dainty? Not at all: it was a feast.
Being January a month of diets, I have hidden all the culinary excesses behind a cut!
1. Affettati misti (prosciutto di Parma, salame, prosciutto cotto)
More yummy Parma ham
2. Insalata di carne cruda (raw, mince beef salad!)
3. Mother's vegetable and tuna antipasto
Lovely local Barolo
4. Insalata russa (Russian salad)
5. Tortellini in brodo (showered with Parmesan cheese)
More tortellini (aka cappelletti)
6. Cinghiale (wild boar) cooked in red wine
7. Arrosto con piselli (Roast beef with garden peas)
An empty plate? Jamais! There's more food coming!
mmmmmm.... grissini!
8. Fritto misto alla piemontese (parte salata): salsiccia, milanese, patate
Piedmontese mixed fry (savoury): sausages, milanese (i.e. Wiener schnitzel), potatoes. (It would normally have other things such as sweetbreads and frog legs but we are not too keen on them)
9. Fritto misto alla piemontese (parte dolce): "polenta dolce", amaretti, frittelle di mele, Pavesini.
Piedmontese mixed fry (sweet): sweet semolina squares (plain and in breadcrumbs), amaretti in batter, apple fritters, Pavesini in batter
Semolina and Pavesini (sandwich of 2 Pavesini biscuits with apricot jam filling, battered and fried)
10. Strawberries and Chantilly cream.
Chantilly cream (vanilla flavoured whipped cream)
More strawberries and cream.
Moscato d'Asti (local sweet wine)
E per finire, l'espresso! (Ma non per me, perche' faccio l'inglese!)
