I'm liking the resolution, and that Draco is thinking Hermione just needs time and distance to realize that her objections are a bit silly.

Yes, Harry thinks she does, too. That's why he doesn't argue with her at length in this chapter.

Draco wants to demonstrate that his commitments to Harry is deep, and he doesn't give up what he wants easily. In some strange way, the opposition from Harry's friends and their enemies was probably good for pushing him along and making him declare deeper emotions than he usually would.

I don't think there was much else they could have done. Leaving someone else alive could have meant more kids tortured, depending on how much the Healers knew about what Moonstone and Schroeder were doing.

Its interesting that despite Harry's influence Draco is still a racist bigot. Ot somehoe makes the pairing more believable.
