There's always a worry when one characters acquires some power over another that that means the other character is going to become weak. I wanted to show that that was definitely not true for Harry. Yes, he's handed the reins over to Draco as far as reading his mind goes, but he's not stupid and he's not surrendered everything. That's what Ron was afraid he would do, but Harry still thinks of the case as more important, not Draco or himself; that's what he's really given his loyalty to.
Seems that Harry is eventually showing us (and Malfoy) that he is worthy of respect. Up to now he has come across as a bit of an idiot, which was worrying as he was a very powerful idiot. Now he's shown that he can think logically about things and has created a successful and useful spell.
Thought the impulses were interesting, particularly Harry trying to decided whether to smile or not.

Yes. And if the case had been less intense up to this point, I think he would have shown his smarter side more. Or if he hadn't used the Retrovoyance spell, which tends to overwhelm him with the cries of the dead.
Harry is a lot more perceptive about the way his expressions and gestures affect people than he used to be. Just not always his actions.
I really love Harry and Draco's exchange in this chapter, here at the end, and Draco's look into Harry's thoughts in the beginning. Really awesome chapter. Most enjoyable so far.
