Lucius is brilliant. I love him. And that last line was potent. I love his mentality, of not yet finding a lover worthy of him. It's so different from Harry's mentality. And yet, Harry sets the same guidelines without realizing it. He finds everyone that approaches him lacking. He wants someone that won't hero-worship him. In a way, he's just as picky and exacting as Lucius is.

I can't wait to read the rest.

Thank you!

That is a really, really interesting description of Harry. He would not see the similarity in the same terms, of course. He would say that, since he never intends to take another lover, he's not being picky, because there's no one for him to pick out.

This is beautifully crafted and very lovely to read. I adore the differences in their thoughts and behaviors. This is amazing. Each installment is a pleasure to read.

I am truly speechless at this story so far. I LOVE Lucius when portrayed like this. So often he is wholey evil or portrayed as purely prideful... there isn't recognition of the intelligence that his manipulations would have required. Obviously he values beauty but intelligence is also a key with him. (It is one reason I can see him and Severus together so easily.)

I love intellectual stories where the characters think and plan. Not just the hormonal need to copulate... but actual thoughts! : ) This is really, really great. I cannot wait for more. This is easily my favorite of your stories right now (although I also love Practicing Liars dearly... of course it is also full of plans and manipulations... hmmm.)

Thanks for the update!

Thank you!

I know there are a lot of dark!fics in the Harry/Lucius pairing...but I've read so many that I don't think I could do anything original with that genre. So here's a slightly more ordinary story.

In the next chapter, Harry and Lucius have their first conversation about politics. I must admit, I'm looking forward to posting that one!

a faint smile that had been old when crocodiles were embryos drifting in the mud

What an evocative phrase...

Thank you! I enjoy the characters' more mature mentalities here as an excuse to write more descriptive prose.
