It's sort of wonderful and icky at the same time. I love that instant understanding, because I know lots of people who would go, What did this guy's parents teach him, as opposed to Draco's clearer assertion that something, most obviously, was done. And I love the instant call to action - when it means going to see the Dursleys.
And the same thing - action with or without permission - looks so yukky with the being-in-bed thing, and the Rogers thing. and of course Draco doesn't see why any of them is different from the other.
Crystal pendants. Harry, darling, when someone gives you crystal pendants you smile and say Thank you, they're lovely. (Even if they're not.)
I think Draco has an advantage here in his understanding of family as the major force (for good or ill) in another person's life. He instinctively, as it were, assumes that Harry must have problems because he doesn't have a family standing by him and trying to make him accept his own health. And in this case, he's right.
And you're absolutely right that Draco doesn't see any difference between one set of actions and another. They're all meant to keep Harry safe, so, in his eyes, they're all permissible.
Harry's response would probably be: It's not my birthday, it's not Christmas, and this person doesn't know me.
When I read Harry Potter and Philosopher's Stone, I read on to the next two books because I wanted to see if someone - preferably Harry - ever gave Dumbledore a pair of warm socks. I have the same itch here, only for crystal pendants. :)
I'm currently at home with my family because I've been very ill for the last two months, so that might be why this fic is currently resonating so very strongly for me. But I suspect I would like it even if I was completely fine and living alone, calling home once every week. I like this Draco and this Narcissa, and Lucius looks better for the company too. :)
Oh, I love this story! That scene, where Rogers turns his head towards Harry, was one of my favourites in the original fic... so to get it from this POV was a real treat!!! Can't wait for more!
Actually, I still feel more sympathy for Harry than Draco in this chapter. I know I'd freak out if I suddenly woke up with someone who's interested in me that way. Draco's comments didn't help any.
That said, he has some fantastic lines, whether because they're funny or observant. I doubt Harry actually consciously think what Draco thinks he think, but his subconscious is another matter. I agree that the Dursleys have something to do with it. I'm very much looking forward to when that shit hits the fan, btw. Especially since Harry and the readers had no idea Draco researched/met the Dursleys in BBU. Will he meet them soon, or will this take place in the end of the story?
Draco's research will take him a while, so the Dursley meeting/hunting won't take place until towards the end.
And yes, I'd probably react the same way as Harry, really. The problem is that Draco knows his intentions are pure (to the point of not forcing Harry into sex), so he kind of assumes Harry should know the same thing. But all Harry knows is that he let up the flirting for a while and now he's starting it again.
Reading this from Harry's POV I was exasperated, but having a friend who is quite as exaggeratedly self-sacrificing as Harry I could not read this without feeling every bit of the anger and frustration I feel when having this discussion with her.
I suppose that's a good thing, but I need to go calm down now.
This is fascinating, endearing and sometimes creepy to read from Draco's point of view.
First, his love for Harry is touching and beautiful.
"He wanted to see Harry’s eyes widen with pleasure and know it had come about because of him." Aaaw!
I had no idea he cared so much that he had made a research about the Dursleys. I love that! Actually, when I was reading the canon serie, I often wondered how come Muggles-haters like the Malfoys weren't shocked about Muggles treating Harry Potter like some servant, and that, even though Harry is the enemy.
That said, there are still things Draco doesn't understand about Harry and his justification about being in the same bed smacks of bad faith. But then, his name is Malfoy ...

Of course, near the end of the fic, Draco will get his wish. :)
I think, in the canon series, the way the Dursleys raised Harry is not widely-known, or surely we would have seen more Rita Skeeter stories about it.
Draco just thinks being in the same bed will make his intentions clearer and move them closer to the final goal. Of course, it doesn't.
