Genkai is the mean, crabby, slightly insane old grandmother of a mentor that he never got to have, and in all honesty? While she pisses him off on a daily basis and probably has the empathy levels of a brick, he cares for her, a lot. She had taught him numerous, invaluable things from his very first Spirit Detective gigs, and has never failed to push him farther than he needed to go. She is his teacher and he is her apprentice, and while he might not act like it, he does hold a certain degree of respect for what she needs to say or teach him.
...however, he did get on her bad side once she came to the island for slacking on his training, and at the moment, he really...really wishes she didn't put that pit full of dingos there 8|;;

...but yeah, he and Hiei have...an interesting history at best. Their first meeting was when Hiei oh-so-wisely kidnapped Keiko as bait for Yusuke during his first detective gig, which...inevitably wound up with Yusuke kicking his ass to next week 8( NOT SO SMOOTH MOVE HIEI. However, for some...inexplicable reason, on the next case they ran into each other (thankfully on the same side), Yusuke claimed he trusted him. SHONEN LOGIC MAKES NO SENSE. Aaaaanyway, as time wore on, Yusuke put more and more faith in Hiei (even claiming he'd come back when he ditched them during the Chapter Black arc), and...I guess you can say they share a sort of odd bromance? 8|a If bromance means kicking each other's ass to make the other feel better, in any case.
Hiei also happened to be one of the few people from home that were on the island when Yusuke first arrived, which resulted in them sticking together more than they were used to. Yusuke wound up getting to know Hiei and his odd subtleties a little better during that time, and in turn tried to get him to know people a little better instead of always hiding in the shadows like a creeper 8'| Sadly, Hiei wound up going home before he did, and now that he's back and doesn't remember a thing...w-well, Yusuke got to start from square one again and he's not quite looking forward to that AHA TAT;; WHICH MEANS DOING DAMAGE CONTROL IF HE DECIDES TO SHANK ANYONE s-sob ;;

She frustrates the hell out of him sometimes, and they usually bicker like crazy people, but holy hell, does he love her. She's tough, strong, brave, and devoted, but she's also unintentionally cute and caring and gentle, and he really likes that about her ;w; And, they can actually relate with one another since they've both been through the whole "outcast delinquent" thing too, not to mention the whole SUPERPOWERS TO SAVE THE PLANET thing, so he feels she can understand him a bit better than most. This comment preeeeetty much sums up his feelings in a nutshell. Sadly, he's a failget when it comes to romance, and she's into the sappy gooey stuff, sooo...yeah TAT; SOMETIMES IT'S HARD TO CHARM WHEN YOU FAIL AT CHARMING. But she's stuck with him through A LOT, and helped him get out of some sticky situations (not to mention forgiven him when she found out about Keiko AHAH D8), and at the moment, he's given her a promise ring as a token for showing how much he really does want to be with her, and swore to find her again if/when they ever get separated.

But ooooh man, Ikki is among one of his favorite people on the island. He was a little :/ about him when they first met, but then Ikki suggested killing time by pissing into the ocean and he had Yusuke's heart ever since! He's on the same level of dumb as Yusuke is, and so whether it's planning on kidnapping one of their castmates and shoving them into a trunk, beating one another up or spying on the AG girls that one time during their sleepover, there is no end to the shonen retard funtimes between the two \o/ They've also made a ~MANLY PROMISE~ to go to one another's worlds if they ever got home, and Yusuke is definitely holding him to that. He does want to see how badass you can get with roller skates, after all.
Currently, he does want to help perk Ikki up now that Sion is gone, but...well, fresh wound is still fresh :( But he does still have support for his bro.

...Shinku. SHIIIINKU. Oh god, she is complicated. She's one of the very first people he met when arriving on the island, and needless to say, their first...four or so months was filled with hair-whippings and her breaking his fingers and plenty of GOD WHYS. Buuut after Makoto 'sploded herself during the moon event and Yusuke was being all angsty and sad, it was her who went to comfort him, and it was that little moment that kind of redefined their relationship. While he does hold a certain degree of respect towards her, since she's like a tiny, dolly version of Kurama, she also aggravates him to no end with the beatings and the whole "servant" thing and ddsjfhsdh yeah ;o; But he knows that if he ever needed an ear to listen, she would be there for him, with her words of advice which he gets only sometimes |D He'd also wouldn't hesitate to protect her, since...well, that's what friends DO, even with their differences :B
They've also bodyswitched once and OH MY GOD Yusuke is never going to touch a box ever EVER AGAIN.

Only spoke to him a few times, but if what Arc oh so cheerfully told him is any indication, THIS MOTHERFUCKER IS SCARY. Because goddamn why would you ever cut someone into that many pieces D8 Therefore, he's a little leery around him, but won't do anything unless he needs to :(
