La dee da...

Happy birthday to the beautiful birthday girls, my Jennie and Jess! And yey for still managing to surprise Jennie even after Telly asked her to come look at porn...oh, kids...

With all of you non-Evanston kids writing about going home, I'm starting to get sentimental myself. With just under a month left here in Chi-town, I still cannot wrap my head around the idea of living in another place for three months. I was thinking last night about coming here and how strange it was to sleep in my bed the first few nights. It was this new, foreign place - not mine at all. Now I cannot imagine sleeping with out the hum of Mo's fan and banging my head every morning on the top bunk. I like it here, I like it here a lot. It's done a great job of kicking my ass and making me realize just how much work I got away with NOT doing in high school. And, it's terrible to think this way, but somewhere in my mind, going home is a step backward. Just a minor spell of backpedalling until I have the money to continue going forward with my plans (oops - not supposed to be planning, huh? I'm contradicting myself, Steve-O...). Is that elitist? Maybe. But I left because there are things I want to do, that I have to do, and if I don't keep telling myself that, it's too easy to sit back and let life do with you what it will.

The idea of leaving these people has become an increasingly difficult one. Maybe I'll get a visitor (Jess?) or maybe I won't. Maybe I'll road-trip to see some of them, which would make things easier. It's a problem I'm thankful to have - you kids are amazing - and one I'm happy to ignore for a little while longer.

So Lincoln kiddos...if y'all aren't doing anything cool for Memorial Day, feel free to come visit! The Saturday prior is Dillo Day, aka "Northwestern becomes a mass of drunken students who go watch bands and then drink some more." Good times will be had by all, especially with George Clinton and Parliament Funk playing. You have no excuses - it's Chicago, you'll be sick of family already and hot damn, it's George Clinton. C'mon...

Life...life is good.
Speech and debate = over.
The Daily = kinda sucks, but I knew that going in. My editor manages to make me feel like a waste of human existance (kind of like the papers I get back in editing and writing) but it's probably good prep for a "real" job someday. Besides, their in-depth CTA coverage leak was too much fun.
WNUR = good...I really like producing, but I so don't have nerves for broadcast.
DZ = FORMAL! Woo! I'm really excited for this. Thank goodness Lydia is bringing Eric, which makes my life much less stressful. We're going to the Millenium Kickerbocker Hotel (I thought of Knickerbockers at home and was really confused the first time I heard it), which is a sweet hotel downtown with a LIGHT-UP DANCE FLOOR. C'mon, that's awesome! And I've got one great-looking date. :)Good thing I have a different dress, because the rest of the picture will look the same as the last formal I went to...which is a positive thing. :)

To y'all already home, have fun - but not too much fun until I get back. And I'll figure out how to post pictures after formal.
