I have no "witty" (i.e corny) joke for the title.
Not because it's too hard to think of one. Believe me, it's early enough that my brain is still fried. It'd only take a moment to get a joke ready. I decided not to joke around with the band name because Jack's Mannequin means too much for me to joke around with.
Andrew McMahon is a serious, serious inspiration to me. He's an amazing musician and an insanely strong human being. He was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2005. Luckily, it was still in the early stages and his doctors were hopeful that he would survive (which he did!)
His first album, "Everything In Transit", came out the day that he received a stem cell transplant from his sister.
He also has a movie coming out (hopefully this year, if Wikipedia is a good source) called "Dear Jack" about his struggles. It's a documentary and includes self-recorded footage from his hospital stay.
Because of all of that, he started the Dear Jack Foundation (
www.dearjackfoundation.com) which is "a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to funding cancer research" (taken from the website).
Not only is amazingly strong, he's an awesome musician. His latest CD from Jack's Mannequin, "The Glass Passenger", is epic. I have no doubt in my mind that there are numerous people out there who would find his music too...weird, you could say.
You know what I say? It's pop music. Plain and simple. I could care less what you think about it. If you are reading this blog right now, go listen to at least one song. Right now.
That CD has not been out of my CD player since I bought it earlier this month. It's one of the best, if not THE best, CD released this year, and if you enjoy quality music that someone who actually has talent wrote, give it a listen. It'll be worth your time.
