SAUNA GOES BEFORE ANYTHING. I UNDERSTAND YOU. And I'm watching Band of Brothers too so no worries~find_a_finNovember 1 2009, 20:26:03 UTC
New Brampton huh? Tino thought about the distance for a while and decided it wouldn't be so bad. After all, like his boss had told Malin, even though she might've not believed him, Tino was pretty strong. The box didn't feel almost at all heavy to him now, and he could easily carry it to New Brampton, that didn't worry him.
The thing that could make this journey hard for him though, was his traveling companion. And Tino really hoped she wouldn't suddenly find it amusing to start grilling him.
But now was not the time to worry about that yet, and Tino decided to try to stay in high spirits as he stepped outside and thanked her for holding the door open for him. She's not a bad person, she just doesn't like you. I don't know why, I don't know how severe it is, but it's not something you can't fix, Tino, so keep your head up and try again! He continued convincing himself as Malin waved and smiled at his boss before stepping out and closing the door behind her. Straightening his back and fixing the position of the box in his hands, Tino waited for her.
"Miss Petersson, may I ask you if there is any particular reason for buying this CD-player?" Good, try to set up a conversation, she'll notice that you're not so bad after all. Stay focused, Tino!

Malin was looking at the sky, wondering if it would start raining later in the afternoon and if she had remembered to wash all the dirty laundry so that she wouldn't have to do that today - she didn't hate housework, but it was still a bit hard to organize her schedule so that she'd have enough time for everything. Usually when she came home from work, she would be too exhausted to even cook anything for herself. On those days she settled on fast food and then promised herself to exercise more.
Which was exactly the reason she had bought the CD-player - to be able to exercise. She sighed quietly and then startled slightly at Tino's sudden voice. Malin turned her look from the sky to Tino. She frowned. "I can't see how that's any of your business. I bought the CD-player - isn't that enough? Do you have to know the reason, too?"
She walked faster, not bothering to wait for Tino. If he couldn't keep up with her, it was his problem. She only paused to wait for the lights to turn green so that they'd be allowed to cross the road, and then continued on her way.

....Owch.
This was really hard. Trying to make friends with someone like her. And Tino was slowly starting to think it would be impossible. But he couldn't give up yet, not when he still had a chance. But before he could answer, Malin had already accelerated her steps and Tino had to take few jogging steps to reach her again. Luckily the box was not a problem for him, otherwise it would've been exhausting to try to keep up with Malin, who was taller than him and walked fast.
"I didn't mean it like that, I'm sorry.." Aaah, what should I say to her... At this rate well reach New Brampton in few minutes and I won't get the chance to fix her first impression... He opened his mouth again, ready to say something incredibly intelligent that would change her opinion about him.
Malin ignored Tino's mumbling for the most part, and kept staring forward. She could have answered. There wasn't anything to hide, really, and she knew that Tino wasn't asking for any specific reason, either. Okay, so he might have been Finnish, and alone that caused many prejudices in Malin. He might have been also a bit annoying, but it didn't mean Malin couldn't answer easy questions like this one. She hesitated a little, but then shrugged indifferently and hastened her steps again.
She sighed and glanced sideways at the man, forcing a small smile on her face. "I'm into BodyJam," she said quickly and shortly, not bothering to explain it any more than that. If Tino was so interested about it, he could go and check what BodyJam was from the Internet. Malin turned her face away - it wasn't that she was embarrassed or anything, but it hurt her pride to give up and talk to Tino voluntarily. She partly blamed her mother for that.
Tino blinked and looked at Malin, surprised, when she finally answered.
...That's almost kind of... cute. Smiling to himself, Tino didn't try to set up a conversation with her anymore, happy with ending the things to that last and at least a liiiittle bit positive note. He still hadn't figured her out at all and wasn't too hopeful about making her like him, but at least she had answered, if that was worth anything.
Are all Ålanders this hard to get along with..?, he thought absentmindedly and glanced at the girl walking next to him after few minutes had passed in silence. He didn't have to think about the answer for long.
...Probably not.
They walked side by side through the empty streets (the cold had scared people inside), and it didn't take long until they reached New Brampton. This was the point when Tino turned to glance at Malin, hoping she would be the one to open up her mouth to tell him where exactly did she live. Tino's voice seemed to have this effect of triggering unwanted emotions in the girl, so by his flawed logic he had decided to try to avoid speaking too much around her unless he was spoken to.
Malin appreciated the silence and would have liked to keep it that way with most people; not awkward silence, of course, but pleasant and comfortable one. It made her calm down in hectic situations. It made her restless and annoyed if people talked in a loud voice - or worse, shouted. Malin was sure that she would get used to it eventually in the US - after spending a few months in Liberty, she had already noticed that most of the time she was able to ignore all the loud passengers on the bus.
She led the way to one of the houses which indeed belonged to her. It was small and cozy-looking, not the most expensive in the area, and definitely not in the best of shapes. It was understandable as the house was very old - and Malin had been thinking of having a repair inside to fix a few minor things.
She turned the key in the lock and opened the door, but didn't let Tino in. Instead she turned around and reached out to take the box from him, hoping to get into the warmth of the house as soon as possible. Malin didn't want any strangers into her house, so Tino would have to walk back to the electronics shop to warm up. "Thank you."

Luckily Tino hadn't expected an invitation inside and he just carefully gave the box to her. "It's a bit heavy so be careful," he said, smiling and stretching his arms after he got rid of the box. This was clearly much better neighborhood than the one where he lived in, but Tino thought it was more fitting for a girl to live here, especially a girl like Malin, and he knew he probably couldn't afford a house here, so he wasn't bitter.
As he was standing there and about to leave, Tino suddenly, for some unexplainable reason, felt playful, and he bowed down so low he could only see her feet and made an announcement with a cheerful voice. "Mister Boss's Electronics Store thanks you for shopping at our place, and we are happy to have you back anytime!"
Then he stood up, smiled quickly, waved his hand and turned around, starting to walk back with hands deep in his pockets and ears bright red. This partly because of the cold, and partly because of what he had done just now and what kind of a face Malin had made after witnessing it.
Ahahaha... She must think I'm a weirdo... Tino sighed and smiled to himself, kicking a little stone while striding through the streets, not looking back. Oh well... maybe I am a weirdo. And not everyone needs to like me, I guess...
He started to hum a Finnish tango tune and didn't stop until he had reached the shop, and to his fortune it seemed like Malin's visit had indeed gotten his boss in a better mood.

"...Umm..."
Well, that was smooth.

It made sense inside his head.

Nothing bad without something good, correct?
