As Willem opened the door he would be greeted not with the full on-slot of zealous Danish teenager bodyslamming him into the floor with a hug (or at least, not quite yet). Instead Kai was crouched on the ground, where he straightened the hem of something that looked much like a doormat. Behind him sat an old rickety pull wagon filled to the brim with items such as gauze, antiseptic, aspirin, icy-hot, ice cream, soda, and an oversized teddy bear with a 'get well' balloon jammed into his paw.

The doormat as it where was nothing more than one of the plain jane 'welcome home' mats from the store though flared up a bit. On the far left corner Kai had taken a patch and stapled over it with thick canvas, the fairly neat scrawl of the Dane then having written "Kai's spot: do not stand here".

Kai hummed as he admired his handiwork, only noticing Willem several moments later in which his expression brightened into one of elated glee. "Hallo!" He began, until his face shifted into a look of aghast horror. "What the actual fuck happened to your face!?"

For a second Willem just blinked at the other man's cart, trying to make sense of what he was seeing. Then he couldn't help but huff in amusement. He himself had said that Kai never did anything by halves.

"I got into a fight on the football field. It looks worse then it is." Stepping back, he made room for Kai to bring himself and the cart on in.

He carefully considered for a moment whether it was appropriate to fling himself whole-heartedly into his normal 'Hallo Willem, I have missed you, this is how much I have missed you, I hope you don't break anything' sort of hugs, or if he should be more reserved, more gentle. There was always the possibility that he might hurt the Dutchman further, and that fate may in fact align itself with the stars that spelled out for a beating with a broken lawn chair.

He'd border on the edge of safety.

After he had passed the threshold with wagon and all Kai dropped the handle, turning to confront Willem with his arms hanging like some awkward bird in midair. "Is it okay to hug you, or will I kill you if I try?" He asked with a pathetic frown taped to his face. "Who the hell did you fight with?"

Willem huffed, half in exasperation and half in amusement, and stepped around the wagon to give the younger man a quick hug.

"Some Spaniard on the other team," he replied, scowling a bit at the memory. "And I'm fine."

Well, he still had a small headache, but the aspirin was kicking in and he was sure it'd go away pretty soon.

He fretted for a moment, hopping from foot to foot as anxiety rattled him for what he could do to help out. What sorts of things made people feel better? "I can make soup? Soup makes people feel okay again. Do you want some soup? Or tea? Or coffee?" Kai prattled out a laundry list even as he wracked his brain further. "A heating pad? I have that icy hot stuff! You should ice your face!"

Willem watched the other man fret, a bemused look on his face.

"I've already had an ice pack on it. Kiku made sure of that. But if you want to make soup that'd be fine."

If nothing else, it would mean Kai would have something to do with all that worried energy and he wouldn't have to worry about dinner tonight. He surveyed the contents of the wagon, and noticing the ice cream he reached in to grab it and put it in the freezer to keep it from melting. His eyes landed on the teddy bear as he did so, and the cuteness of that made him smile as he walked into the kitchen.

"What kind of soup do you like?" What kind of soup do you make when your friend looks like they met the unfortunate side of a brickwall? Chicken noodle was for when you were sick, so.. Tomato? No, that's blood colored. Carrot? Vegetable? Alphabet?

The mental image of finding a box of alphabet noodles within his friend's cabinets had him paused for a second, the worry momentarily dissolved with a snort.

"Would it be more fair to just raid your pantry per normal and see what ingredients you have?" Kai asked as he traipsed into the kitchen after him, and moved to do just that.

Assuming that Kai wouldn't need approval before going through his cabinets, Willem didn't bother answering. Instead he grabbed the ice pack from the freezer and replied it to his face. He went to sit down at the kitchen table so he'd be out of the way, but stopped when he noticed Lucy sneaking along the floor. Curious, he followed her line of sight, and realized she was going for the balloon. Not wanting her to mess it up, he reached out and grabbed her off the ground. She let out a loud meow to let him know she was displeased as he set her on the sofa, and she pranced off into his bedroom.

"-- Cat?" Kai instantly stuck his head out the kitchen door when he heard Lucy howl, eyes bright with the kind of joy reserved for small children who had just been gifted with their first action figure. He followed her up until she disappeared behind Wilm's door, the obvious battle of "to follow or not to follow" consuming the entirety of his face.

With cheeks puffed he settled on the later, and turned to Willem with the same expression as he let the air loose. "I found some mystery meat in your freezer! Mystery meat soup sound good?"

It took everything Willem had not to burst out laughing as he watched Kai stalk the kitty across the room. He did, however, smile at the other man when he looked up.

"Sounds good," he affirmed, going to sit down at the kitchen table. From there he'd had a good view of what was going on in his kitchen without being in the other man's way.

Forlorn to finish his chase Kai resigned himself to the task of mystery meat soup, and all the potential horrors it could entail for its two soon to be eaters. It looked like some sort of game -- perhaps duck? He wasn't going to question it much, as soup was soup and as long as it didn't kill them.. well, it would be a successful meal.

"So.. what was the fight about?" He inquired before moving about to scour the fridge for more ingredients. "And who do I need to beat down with a baseball bat?"

Willem shrugged.

"Some Spaniard I met during a football game. He got hit with the ball and claimed I did it on purpose."

He smirked a bit.

"I got him just as good though."

Looking over the counter, he eyed the meat Kai had laid out on the counter.

"That's fish, by the way."

"I hope you beat the shit out of him with the fury of ten thousand Dutch armies. And a few Danish ones, too," Kai remarked unknowingly outloud as he inspected the meat in front of him. When Willem mentioned that it was fish, a light bulb at last clicked on with understanding.

"Huh. What kind of fish?" He cocked his head, as though looking at it from a different perspective would give him the answer he was looking for. Regardless he stepped away to grab a pot, filling it halfway with water and plunking the fish fillets straight down into it, bones and all.

"Pike," he replied. "I was going to try making waterzooi this weekend."

He'd never actually made the dish himself, but he had a recipe from his Oma and had been craving the dish for a while now so he'd been determined to try.

"Waterzowha?" Kai babbled around his tongue at this new word to put in his vocabulary, flopping the pot down on the burner and setting it to a low temperature. "Do you have it written down anywhere..? We could make it together!"

Cooking together. Side by side. Man to man.

... Yeah, it sounded a little cheesy, but maybe he could make a leek mustache for Willem or something.

"Since hey, if it's something your Oma would make then you'd definitely feel a whole lot better after eating it."

Willem smirked softly.

"Waterzooi." he repeated, slowly. "And yes, my recipe is from my Oma."

Getting up, he tossed the ice pack back in the freezer before reaching into the drawer next to the sink for an old, battered notebook. Spreading it out on the counter, he surveyed what Kai had already pulled from the fridge. Ticking the items off as he went down the list, he told Kai what else was needed.
