Who: Berwald and Kai
When: Tuesday, June 21st, early afternoon
Where: Berwald's shopfront
What: Dinnertime approaches once again, though a few hours early and a 'game' of twenty questions.
Shared responsibilities was a welcome change to his life in the big city. The rowhouse has been a perfect space for everything he needed to accomplish -- the belly was spacious enough to allow him to renovate and keep shop, with a large bay window to display his wares, enough steps in the front to put it grant it some privacy and also put it out of the way of general passerbys. He hadn't realized upon first leasing as a tenant that he'd be sharing a back with the tenant next door, nor did he realize he was also operating his own row house in a manner similar to Kai's. He had happened to wander next door on a whim to introduce himself when he met the Swede several years earlier, and realized then that he also was a tradesman. A glassblower, to be exact -- Between the two of them they had to be extremely careful not to burn down the entire goddamn town, what, with the intensity of heat and flame they both dabbled with daily, though it had been a common point for which they could bond.
Soon a friendship blossomed and, being poor men in a society that required top dollar, tried to find a means of making life easier for them both. The first suggestion was the garden -- The soil was piss poor and couldn't breathe life into a rock the first few times they tried, but with tender care it wasn't long before they could get a few vegetables growing. Cabbage and potatoes mostly, though it was often supplemented at their shared mealtime with a local meat, perhaps some cheese if there was room to splurge, and some sort of sweet corn cake if Kai had time to bake it. It was meager, it was small, but it was enough to fill their bellies so he couldn't complain much. Again, it was just nice to have someone share in the responsibilities.
Though it had been his night to cook engagements knew he'd need to tend elsewhere in the evening, so dinner had to be started early. He packed up all the splendors of their meal into a large basket before locking up shop, his entire insinuating that his evening would entail more than just reading books and finishing up new projects. "Hoi hoi, Berwald!" Kai called as he bid himself enter into the shop space, glancing left and right before pressing inward. "Sorry, but I have to start dinner early if you don't mind--"
