Morning of the 24th mystiklsushi May 25 2011, 00:43:11 UTC
Kiku knocked softly on the partially open door, entering as quietly as possible. He did not want to disturb Sindre if he was sleeping. It wouldn't take long for him to recognize who had visited once he spotted the origami crane among the flowers, and that was enough.

Looking up at the noise, Sindre nodded at the man in the doorway.

"Hei, Kiku," he said quietly. "It's nice to see you."

"I didn't mean to disturb you. Are you resting well?"

Kiku perched on the visitor's chair, gingerly handing over the small folded paper bird. He had already been to visit once, with Willem, the day after the fire, and was glad to see how much Sindre's overall condition had improved since then.

"'s all I'm doing," Sindre responded wryly. "It'll be nice to be able to get up and move."

Taking the crane, Sindre smiled a bit. "Thank you, Kiku. I like it."

It seemed his sense of humor was also on the rise.

"I decided to be optimistic. 1,000 cranes is a little much," he smiled back.

"I'm glad," he replied. "I'd be a little insulted if you had so little faith in my that you thought I'd need a full one thousand."

"How much longer are they keeping you confined?"

Absently, he rearranged the flowers closest to the bed.

"Tomorrow," Sindre replied quickly.

"I seem to be in the clear for infection setting in. So since I have people who will be looking after me, and with promises to be very careful while everything heals and to take my painkillers and come in weekly, I can go home tomorrow."

"You seem anxious to be home. I don't say I blame you...I've never been fond of hospitals, myself. Or doctors for that matter..."

He sat again, hands folded in his lap.

"Congratulations on your impending release."

"I don't like being idle," Sindre informed. "I don't like being immobile, and I don't like being stuck on my back."

He grimaced at himself. He hadn't intended to complain so much. "And no one's ever accused me of being a good patient. I apologize."

He nodded at Kiku's words. "Thank you. As you can tell, I am glad to be going home."

Kiku chuckled.

"Willem was very much the same way. I couldn't get him to rest for more than a few hours."

"Is he doing all right?" Sindre asked. "He's been in a few times, but I can tell when people are glossing over things."

Kiku nodded. "He isn't complaining of any pain or fatigue, but...he wasn't complaining from the beginning. So far as I can tell, though, he has recovered. No more stiff movements or coughing, and his voice is back to normal."

"That's good," Sindre replied, relieved. "I'm glad he didn't get too hurt helping me."

Sindre glanced down at his legs, hesitant to ask his next question. "Did he get burned at all, helping me? He never said he did, but from what I recall of the fire, I'd be impressed that he got out without any."

"Nowhere that I could see. He inhaled more smoke than anything, and from what I gathered, that was enough to cause minor swelling and some irritation to his lungs. And he's already recovered from that."

Kiku paused a moment, weighing his words.

"It may sound strange to say, but...I think you are very lucky. Not everyone has a friend who is willing to risk injury to pull them from a burning building."

"I am very lucky," Sindre agreed. "And I'm very grateful. Not just for Wilm willing to risk his life, though I am grateful for that. But also that we had made plans for lunch. That Kai hadn't been caught up in the flames, and that he also risked himself for me. That Raivis, who I've only met twice and was only passing by, dared to enter." A small snort escaped him. "I was even lucky that Feliks stayed long enough to call the ambulance, instead of just fleeing."

He smiled slightly at Kiku. "I'm grateful for all of my friends."
