Flashback! Intro to the 1600's
When: Summer 1996
Who: Wilm (8) Antonio (12) and Remy (4)
Where: A beach on Tortola
What: Spain builds an empire. Netherlands steals it.
The bucket left a long, broken trail in the sand as Remy dragged it up the beach. She'd gotten it down to the water easily enough, but now, filled with wet sand, it was a bit too heavy for her little hands to carry.
Still, she was determined to bring her sand back up to the spot she'd picked out; the perfect place to build herself a little castle. Her new bucket was perfectly shaped for the tower, with little turret-shaped cups in the bottom. Her first few castles had crumbled, but she was pretty sure she had the right combination of water and sand now.
She hummed quietly to herself, sitting down by the little moat she'd dug. Now she just had to get the bucket upside-down without spilling the sand. This was the tricky part....
And just like the last few times, the heavy bucket slipped from her tiny fingers, leaving her sitting next to a shapeless mound of sand with a pout on her face.
