WHO: Matt and Emi WHEN: April 28th, Thursday morning. WHERE: LU campus, everywhere and anywhere. WHAT: Just a little bit of NAFTA bonding. Sans the idiot.
"Ahh... Maybe just where any psychology classes would be but since it's summer-" Matthew gave a light shrug, rubbing the back of his neck and trying not to make much eye contact. She was much too pretty for that sort of thing so early in the re-meeting process. He'd spent most of the library trip with his arms loaded down with books and his eyes to the rows and rows of them, making mental notes of the specific section and making sure to spot where the medical psychoanalysis books were before they had finally checked out.
All and all, it had been a successful morning. "But it's really no trouble... I just want to sort of... get a layout of the campus?" he said softly, clearing his throat and smiling weakly. He really should speak up a little- but it was harder than normal. Actually 'hanging out' with someone wasn't something he was used to.
But looking at his feet had the unfortunate (or fortunate?) side effect of looking straight down at the much shorter woman. Emiliana's smiling eyes beaming up at him and causing a light pink blush to colour his cheeks, a lump the size of a frog forming in his throat and eyes helplessly locked to Emi's.
"Anywhere you want Em-" he laughed again slightly, trying to brush off the slight nervous waver to his voice. He really should've learnt to be better around women- but they were just so... nerve inducing.
She almost had to strain to hear him properly, brow furrowing slightly as she fought to make out what he was mumbling. It was hard, but she eventually got it. Or she hoped so, anyway.
"I can do that," Emi replied with an easy grin as they began to walk. "I don't think we're that far from where some of the psychology classes are, I think we-Oh! See that building over there? That tall, old looking one? That's where the linguistics department is located. And religious studies and I think a lot of the foreign language advisors are there, too. If you ever need to go there, of course." She flashed him a sheepish smile as they continued walking.
They continued like this for a few more minutes, with Emi pointing out other buildings that she assumed the blonde would be interested in, as she nodded toward one of the more newer buildings on campus. "Psych department's right over there. Do you want to go inside or keep walking?" Tilting her head somewhat, she raised an inquisitive brow up at the Canadian. "Have you eaten anything, Mateo? We can stop somewhere for lunch, too. If you'd like."
Em's just too pretty for him. Exotic beauty.canadien_pleaseApril 29 2011, 00:39:16 UTC
Matthew's vocabulary consisted of mostly head nods and the occasional comment about either taking a French class or even quiet joking about having to take a class Emiliana was in. But as they reached the Psychology department he looked up in awe, eyes almost sparkling. He was absolutely thrilled, finally a culmination of all his hard work and studying amassing into one place where he could finally do something with his life.
And then it all came to a skittering, mortifying stop as almost on cue, his stomach let out a loud grumble.
His face flushed a bright red at Emiliana's words and smiled weakly, clearing his throat. "Oh uh- yeah-" he spoke up just a bit, trying to hide the embarrassing stomach gurgling and convinced right there he was going to die. "Uhhh... Food sounds good! I'm... I'm up for anything but um- You guys don't have anywhere around here that sells poutine do you...?"
I think he needs to go outside more often. salylimonApril 29 2011, 00:58:48 UTC
"Poutine-?" The amusement she felt at his embarrassed mumbling and stomach growling faded as she pursed her lips, confusion now etched in her expression. "I-I'm not sure. I've actually never heard of it so I don't know what I'd be looking for."
Smiling apologetically, Emi gave a weak shrug. "But maybe if you tell me what it is, I can figure it out. Or maybe even remember seeing it. I'm not sure if we'd be able to find it on campus, but who knows? Supongo que we might be able to find it somewhere downtown and off campus."
"Oh- no no it's fine... Most people outside of Canada don't know about it," Matthew murmured, smiling softly and waving a hand. He sighed, glancing around before letting his eyes hesitantly settle on Emiliana. He was starting to get used to this- at least a little bit. She was definitely kind, and sweet, which he liked. Maybe making a few friends here wouldn't be so hard after all.
"It's uh... Well it's probably going to sound gross to you but... Fries covered in cheese curds and gravy? It's really good..." he fidgeted with the hem of his hoodie, blinking down at her and smiling. "I'll have to make you some one day maybe. It's not too hard to make actually..."
...who said that. salylimonApril 29 2011, 03:18:40 UTC
"I don't mind looking for it though-" Emi paused, brow raising as she grinned. "And gross? Querido, I eat menudo and that's basically a stew made with a cow stomach. So this...poutine doesn't sound gross at all." Squeezing his arm in reassurance, she fished around her bag for her phone, checking the time before shrugging once again. "Like I said, I don't mind looking for some poutine. I have all the time in the world today."
Putting her phone back inside her bag, she fidgeted slightly. "If you want, we can walk around downtown. I think it'd be easier to look around than just driving, no?"
Laughing quietly, Matthew nodded and smiled a bit wider, feeling a bit... fluttery as her hand tightened around his arm in a light squeeze. He wasn't too sure of the... rules of this whole business but this was a step in the right direction wasn't it? And even if it wasn't, then... Well it wasn't as if he was expecting anything more than friends to come of this. He was never really out looking for more. "Walking sounds nice, it's actually not still freezing here and I could use a bit of sun... I didn't realize how pale I've turned over the winter."
He smiled again weakly and glanced around, motioning for Emiliana to lead the way. "Ah... So which way is downtown exactly?" he mumbled quickly, rubbing the back of his neck again.
Heels digging into the gravel beneath them, Emi shifted, scanning the area around them briefly before pointing to their left. "We can go this way," she replied, beginning to lead the way. "And you're lucky. It's warming up here so you'll be able to get a tan soon enough," she glanced up at him, grinning as they walked.
It was surprising, really. She had forgotten just how different Matthew was from Alfred. That differentiation between both brothers was, to be honest, a breath of fresh air. Were Matthew anything like his brother, Emi was sure she probably would have refused anything beyond a tour of the library.
Then again, here's to hoping that he didn't surprise with a sudden one-eighty.
"I suggest going to the beach," Emi continued, lips quirked upward. "It's really nice once it's warm enough to go. I spend most of my free time there once summer comes."
"Oh..." Matthew smiled weakly and laughed again, nodding. He was never one really for getting tan, his skin seeming to always skip the 'tan' and go straight to the 'burn.' But... Emiliana didn't need to know that right away right? That would just be awkward and much too much information for the first re-meeting. "Yeah... I should probably check out the beach... I think for all the times I've visited Liberty I've never actually gone..."
He shifted, humming and following Emiliana with a steady gate and nodded to her. "I'm more used to snow most of the year, coming from Montreal, so beaches aren't really a common thing... At least, not ones that you'd want to ever hang around at without full wet suits."
"I can't handle cold weather that well. My immune system tends to be crap sometimes, so I get sick easily when it's cold," Emi admitted sheepishly, staring down at the flats she was wearing as she absently toed a stray pebble away while they stopped at a red light before crossing the street.
"But if you ever want to go to the beach, let me know. Not to, ah, tag along I mean-!" She said quickly, flushing somewhat as she tugged at her bag strap. "Just, you know, if you want to know of any of the spots that aren't crowded with tourists on those hot summer days. I've found a few these last five years so I'd be more than willing to tell you about one or two locations," Emi added with a sly grin and teasing wink.
A pause.
"Just don't tell Alfred if I ever do tell you," she added as an afterthought.
Matthew smiled slightly and his flush increased as hers appeared across her face. He nodded slightly and opened his mouth to reply, cut off with a grin and a wink, left slightly gaping and swallowing hard. If this wasn't flirting then he honestly didn't know what was- Oh god. He was being flirted with. Oh holy maple-
"Y-Yeah..." he stammered out, almost stumbling over the curb as she started across the street and hrurying after her. He cleared his throat, grinning back weakly and nodding. "Yeah that sounds- fun uh..." his tongue felt tied, words scrambling in his mouth and not coming out quite as well as he planned them.
"A-Ah. So- you... wouldn't want to go with me sometime then?"
Flirting. Yeah. No....Maybe. 8'|salylimonApril 29 2011, 09:27:32 UTC
Blinking, Emi looked up at him once more, the blush on her cheeks still lingering as they passed by what appeared to be more fast food restaurants with nothing resembling what the blond had mentioned earlier. She hadn't meant to invite herself like that. They were still getting to know each other, trying to move beyond that label of acquaintances to friends, so just implying that she wanted to tag along was-
Embarrassing, really.
"G-Go where-?" Her brow furrowed. "O-Oh! To the beach? Aiiish, it's- I didn't mean to make it sound like I wanted to tag along. I mean, I'd love to go with you! But...I wasn't trying to force myself onto you and-" She paused, the flustered look on her face coming back. "I'm not making any sense, am I? Perdóname.
Oh god Jared's going to kill me.canadien_pleaseApril 29 2011, 09:43:55 UTC
"Oh I didn't think-" Matthew shook his head quickly and his hand automatically started to fidget nervously with his hair. Fail. Just fail- he hadn't meant to make her embarrassed as well! This was just getting more awkward- and the fact that his stomach was still growling wasn't helping at all. "I was just inviting y-you-!"
This is why Emi can't have non-gay male friends. 8|salylimonApril 29 2011, 09:48:24 UTC
"No, I'm sorry for-"
Emi paused.
She blinked.
She was pretty sure she had just stopped in the middle of the sidewalk to stare up at the Canadian.
"Did you just-?" She shut her mouth quickly, making sure to stop herself before she wound up saying something would could potentially be undeniably rude. Clearing her throat awkwardly, she shuffled beside him, suddenly nudging his side with her elbow gently as a way to distract him while her eyes quickly spotted a rather interesting sign. "F-Forget it. I...I think I just found carne asada fries. Not poutine. But. Y-You sound sq-er, hungry and I don't want to drag you around anymore since, ah, you're hungry. And. Si."
W-Well I can... act gay?canadien_pleaseApril 29 2011, 09:58:33 UTC
"Hungry- very hungry," Matthew said under his breath, face flushed red as he carefully took her arm and dragging her towards the sign, not daring to look back as they reached the fast food joint and stood rigid in front of the door, groaning frustratedly as he ran one hand over his face.
This was horrible.
He just-
"P-Please forget that just happened-" he said softly, turning his head slightly back towards her but keeping his eyes closed. "My... m-my voice cracks- if I raise my voice-"
....she will be touchy feely without knowing the truth. 8'|salylimonApril 29 2011, 10:11:07 UTC
Emi remained silent for another moment, rubbing the bridge of her nose sheepishly as she made to push the door open. She wasn't sure what to say, choosing to instead dig her teeth into her bottom lip as they both attempted to focus on the food menu across from them.
Eyes flickering upward, she finally forced a small grin on her face. "Forget what happened?" She asked lightly, dropping the matter and not bothering to venture further into what was obviously a rather embarrassing incident for the blonde.
