Idling in a hardware store

WHAT: Berwald gets to give some advice.
Berwald was standing in front of the shelf containing rulers, scanning them over absentmindedly. He had really come there for more nails and a few other things for the sauna project but while heading towards that section of the large store, he'd happened upon the rulers and been reminded his largest had faced an unfortunate accident when Peter had borrowed it a while ago for one of his projects. So far, he'd managed with the second largest but a new one would make certain things easier. Berwald glanced briefly at the cheaper plastic and wooden rulers but they really weren't worth buying in the long run, were they? Especially the plastic ones splintered after a week in use. Then again, as Peter had displayed the metal ones could easily get bent out of shape and then snap if one tried to straighten them back to their original shape.
Berwald picked up first a wooden ruler from the larger end of size and then a metal one, testing their flexibility (carefully, so as not to damage them) and general feel. Actually, the wooden one didn't seem too bad and it was significantly cheaper, especially as they were on sale. Still, he was hesitant to buy something he didn't have much experience of... Berwald picked up the steel ruler again, pulling one end up and then letting it go, the metal making a faint twanging sound that went on a long time. Funny sound, that, almost hypnotizing...
