The elevator dinged open, a girl/woman took three steps out, and the doors dinged shut behind her. She stared at the door of the penthouse with a mix of nervousness and shock that could make one's eyes pop out of their sockets and roll around on the floor. Through her entire twenty years Marie had never really lived even close to this high on the hog. The thought that Francis could now be living so well made her falter, but a few seconds of staring were enough.
She shut her mouth into a determined line and knocked on the door.
