Just about. I really don't feel the need to include the molesting snake or the snake who likes cock talks_to_nisse January 23 2011, 08:39:29 UTC
Siri couldn't help but snort at Patience's face. Very cute, to be sure, but it wasn't going to help Patience get her way. "Not a chance," she replied instead. "You have a bad track record with electronics, and I'm not about to chance you blowing it up. Especially on an airplane."

Eying the man who bumped into Patience as he tried to pass, she watched as he suddenly fell to the ground. Thinking only of the screaming girl next to her, Siri yanked open her seatbelt, tugging at Patience to move and ordering "Switch with me".

With extra space now between the body and Patience, Siri bent down to examine him. Distantly noting another passenger scream for help, she noted the man's chest wasn't moving. She stuck her fingers under his nose to check for airflow, but jerked back when something in his shirt moved. She hadn't felt anything before that, meaning...

Siri just stared as a black head poked out of the man's collar, followed by a sinuous body. Simply reacting, she drew her leg up and drove it down, aiming for the head. She held her foot there as something (the rest of the the body her mind filled in) whipped about in his shirt, not daring to move until it went still.

A snake. She had just killed a snake. On a plane. Finding her voice, she called to Patience, "Don't look!"

Patience convinced herself that she had overreacted. Then again, it wasn't common for her to see someone suddenly dropping to the ground without a sign of life. At Siri's comment, she unbuckled her seat belt and climbed over to the middle seat. The man next to them was equally nervous, though he did a better job at hiding it than the quivering Patience.

"-s he all right? Did he have a heart attack?"

What bothered Patience, aside from the collapsed man, was that though many passengers had pressed for the flight attendants, no one had come. She looked up and saw that the symbols were all lit, but yet, there was no response.

"W-where is... Why isn't anyone coming?" she said, mostly to herself.

Her hands gripped the armrest as she watched Siri check the man then suddenly the Norwegian was stepping on the man's chest. From her angle, Patience hadn't quite seen the black head that had popped out. All she saw was Siri stomping out the life from the man. Her lips quivered. Surely, her dearest auntie wouldn't be so cruel... and in front of everyone too!

"Siri... y-you..." She disobeyed Siri's words and looked into the abyss. The abyss stared back into her. "You stepped on him. W-why? You ki--... Wait, what is that black... Is it a tie...?"

Someone from the row across from her shouted out, "IT'S A SNAKE."

Then all hell broke loose. Some passengers stood up to get a better look. Some stayed glue to their seats. Some panicked. Some joked.

Patience, on the other hand, remained in her seat. She hugged the blanket because it was the only thing there. She looked up at Siri, confused and afraid. Of the situation. Of the look in Siri's eyes.

"Siri... What's happening? Was it really a snake...?"

"Put your feet up," Siri barked in response, reaching for her purse to grab her hardbound collection of Sherlock Holmes. A bit unwieldy, maybe, but it was hopefully heavy enough to stun another snake if it arose.

And she had a bad feeling that another would. One snake, potentially venomous enough to kill a full grown man, loose on a plane was unbelievable. It would be foolish to assume that such an unbelievable thing would only happen once.

Handing the volume to Patience, Siri examined the area around their seats for signs of any other reptiles. Spotting nothing, she crouched atop Patience's vacant seat.

Lowering her voice, she leaned towards Patience. "Yes, it was a snake. I don't know if it killed him, or if it was the only one. So keep an eye out--"

She was interrupted by a shriek from the behind them. "SNAAAAKEEE! IT'S ON ME GET IT OFF!"

Patience put her feet up with a hand to prevent any unintentional flashing. The situation might be dangerous, but she had to be a proper lady above all. When she was handled the volume of Sherlock Holmes, she took it without protest, though she wished Siri realized it wasn't the time to read anymore.

"A snake," she repeated as if the words were foreign to her. She had seen snakes on the telly, at the zoo, but never with her own eyes. If she had seen a real one, my, Patience wasn't sure if she would ever register.

She reached for Siri's hand and gripped it with both of hers. Only a moment of silence passed before someone directly behind them shrieked. A businessman stood, his hands patting and taking off his jacket. The passengers next to him shrieked as well, and soon, the whole cabin was in a screaming panic.

Now everyone knew: there were more than one snake. In fact, there might be a lot of snakes.

The sudden shriek had made Patience duck and slipped off her seat. She bumped her head against the plastic table. Rubbing her head and groaning, Patience tucked on Siri's sleeve.

"The man, he was coming back from the lavatory. I saw him! Do you think... do you think that's where the snakes are coming from?"

She stayed crouched, somehow believing that the snakes, if they were here, wouldn't be able to see it.

"S-should we... is there an airplane constable or some sort we can contact?"

Staring down the aisle, Siri froze, undecided. Just what were you supposed to do when snakes saw fit to invade a small, enclosed space with plenty of clutter? Would it be best to get up off the ground, but under another area that could potentially hide snakes? She couldn't even tell how many there were or where they were coming from!

Patience's hands clutching hers just a bit tighter yanked her out of her momentary panic. If it only were her life on the line, she could waste as much time as she wanted. But it wasn't. Giving the aisle an actual thought, she weighed her options. They could stay in a crowded area that definitely had snakes, or they move up and try to find the air marshal in an area that may or may not. They could stay in their seats which blocked most of their vision, or they could move down the still mostly-clear aisles that at least gave them visibility in two directions.

"Come on," she said, taking a firmer grip on one Patience's hands and all but shoving the book into the other. "We're going to go try and find the air marshal. If anything move towards you, swing the book at it. Better to hit a human than not deflect a snake."

What Siri wouldn't give to be facing a terrorist or hijacker right now. People you could deal with. Goddamn snakes.

Patience didn't want to move. If it was up to her, she would stay exactly where she was until all the snakes were gone. After all, what did they know about handling snakes? Unfortunately, Siri had the exact opposite idea.

"Wait, Siri, I don't know if that's a good idea," she said, holding the heavy Sherlock volume over her chest. What would Sherlock do if he were here right now? Oh bloody hell, Patience would settle for Watson even! "Perhaps, it's best if we wait..."

But her protest went unheard and before she knew it, she was dragged out of her seat and stalking down the narrow aisle behind Siri. Siri led her away from their cabin and into the business classs, where most of the passengers seemed unaware of the crisis.

Patience's first thought was that the bed-like seats must be so comfortable, and how nice it would be to take a nap.

"E-excuse me," she called out to the passengers. "There is..." She stopped, thinking it over in her head. Even she knew it probably wasn't a good idea to alert more people as it would result in a full-blown panic. She looked to Siri then and decided to let her aunt take the lead.

In the meantime, she looked to the man closest to her, who seemed to be asleep with his jacket as a blanket. She noticed something around the man's belt, and her heart jumped a beat.

"Siri..." Patience said, tugging on Siri's sleeve. "I think that man has a gun..."

Siri didn't want to split up from Patience, but at the same time she did not want her around a man with a gun who may or may not be the air marshal. He didn't look like one, and Siri was fairly certain that sleeping during the flight was frowned upon. On the other hand, Siri could not think of anyone else who would so brazenly wear a gun with today's heightened security.

Deciding, she placed her hand on Patience's shoulder. "I want you to run down to the end of the cabin and look for anyone who looks like they'd be an air marshal. Come right back if you don't see anyone." Giving her niece a nudge, Siri turned back to the prone man.

The hand she reached out to shake him with was quickly grabbed in a firm, tight grip. This man did not look pleased to be interrupted. Refusing to be intimidated, Siri explained, "There was an...incident in the economy cabin. At least two people were bit by snakes, and at least one is dead. I was just wondering if you were the air marshal." Wiggling her hand in his grasp, she added, "Can you let go of me, now?"

Patience didn't like it, but she knew she had do it. Nodding, she let go of Siri's sleeve, took another look at the man, and hurried toward the end of the cabin. As she ran down the aisle, some passengers stirred to her footsteps. She muttered soft apologies as she jogged, her mind bothered by the visible lack of flight attendants and abandoned food cart next to the lavatory.

Behind the lavatory was the storage, where Patience could see pots of coffee and hot water, and the stiff leg of a woman. It didn't take long for her to realize that the leg belonged to a flight attendant, and said attendant was not moving.

"E-excuse me?" she still asked. "Miss? Ma'am? We need help... There has been a terrible--- Oh dear..."

The snake bite on the attendant's neck was visible from where Patience stood. And if she looked to her left, she would have seen a snake tail wiggling between two cartons of apple juice. She covered her mouth but couldn't stop the scream from coming out. Before she knew it, she was running back to Siri. When she was next to Siri again, she was on the ground after having tripped over her feet.

"Oh, Siri. I couldn't find the-the... p-person. But the... lady, she... she is... the lady..."

Finally releasing her, the man demanded Siri explain exactly what she meant. After she gave him a brief, detailed summation of what happened, he shook his head. "I'm sure it's just a fluke, or the start of mass hysteria," he told her. She noticed, though, that he nudged the man next to him awake. "Go back to your seat," he advised her. "You're not allowed in this cabin."

Siri was about to fight him on the dismissal when Patience came running back. Kneeling down next to her prone figure, Siri tried to make out her niece's message through her stammering.

"The lady? The...flight attendant?" she repeated. "What's wrong..." Oh. The flight attendant was probably...right.

Taking Patience into her arms, Siri tried to calm the girl down. "I'm sorry, Patience, you shouldn't have had to see that. But I need you to calm down. We won't be able to do anything if we panic."

Glaring up at the man, Siri turned her ire on him. "Do you believe me now? This clearly isn't just hysteria. There is no way a woman in your compartment would have caught wind of it yet. And they are in your compartment. So get up, Mr. Air Marshal or G-Man or whoever you are that lets you carry a weapon on a plane, and help us out."

The man did get up. He set his glare on Siri and reached to adjust his jacket so his gun remained hidden. For now. He rudely pushed Siri out of his way and strutted down the aisle, as if he was John Wayne in a cowboy western. He stopped a way down and whispered to another man seated. Both men turned their heads and looked back at Siri's direction for a brief moment before they turned back and continued to chat.

"Siri." Patience's voice broke the tense silence. Her hand, trembling, reached to lock with Siri's. Her voice was already breaking. "Are they going to land the plane? They must, mustn't they? They can't let people be on the plane if there is a danger, yes?"

Then her lips quivered, but she did not cry. She tried to act brave and swallowed her fear. Mama had taught her to be a strong girl, and she mustn't cry.

"We'll be all right, won't we, Siri?"

"I..." Siri trailed off as the man went off down the aisle. "I don't know. If they don't realize the problem, or if the ground traffic control doesn't clear a runway in time...we might have to push on through to our original destination." That was assuming the pilots survived this trip, though seeing as the plane was still in the air, Siri assumed they were still, at this moment, alive. No need to mention the possibility it might be otherwise until it became a probably. "You'll be fine," Siri promised. She would make sure of it.

"This will hopefully be the only time I have to say this," Siri told Patience, "but the best thing to do is probably to follow the man with the gun. He might be an ass, but it's best to get in a group with someone trained to handle...unfortunate changes in plans."

Ushering her niece along after them, Siri almost crashed into Patience as she stopped short, snake suddenly impeding their path. Without thought, Siri pushed Patience to the side and sketched kenaz, a move born of muscle memory from expending teenage frustration, and willed fire into the snake. Writhing, the snake managed to hang on to life for a few moments before bursting.

Siri spared a moment to curse the fact that she just revealed what she could do, but she squashed it immediately. It wasn't useful. Voice hardening, she repeated, "You'll be fine."

Looking up at the two men, Siri asked, "This enough proof for you to act?"
