He had come to a decision. The best way to defeat the temptation to stay at home and not leave aside from the threatening of his poor figures by unbalanced Moldovan men was to get out of the house. But this also required baby steps. Kiku had been quite good and spent the entire morning working through the nightmare of accounting work he'd been missing all month for the cafe, sorting paychecks and bills and managing expenses, but any longer in dealing with numbers and he would snap. Again.
Therefore, he sought quiet solace in a place that was not home, but in which he felt very much at home. His brain had grown somewhat unaccustomed to thinking completely in English after all of the Japanese gaming he had been doing, so the English exercise would do him good, he reasoned (and he had recently agreed to help with the scanalation scripts for several doujin).
After choosing a small stack of classics (it was doujin based on a period novel series), he curled into a chair to attempt to wade through the difficult prose. It turned out to be a good thing he had...but there seemed to be quite a few things his dictionary just couldn't handle.
"Ordinary people seem not to realize that those who really apply themselves in the right way to philosophy are directly and of their own accord preparing themselves for dying and death..." He frowned, tapping his pen. He wasn't unable to grasp the overall meaning, but it bothered him that he couldn't translate it perfectly in his head as he normally could...
He continued on like this for a while, staring and willing the words to make a little more sense in an easy to recognize pattern. Even rephrasing it would be fine...
