She had been in the middle of attempting to untangle the litter of knots in her hair with her fingers, only to pause, confused at the look on Jared's face and the strained mutter that escaped his lips.

Brows furrowing somewhat, Emi leaned over to get a better look at the now unwrapped gift.

It was a blanket. Or quilt, rather. Something along those lines, really. Folded neatly and carefully beneath the wrapping paper, it seemed innocent enough. However, as beautiful and well-taken care of as it looked, Emi could still tell that it was most likely an older blanket of sorts. Eyes flickering up to scan Jared's face once more, she focused her attention back onto the folded material on his lap.

Slowly, she brushed her fingers over it before picking it up for a closer look. "What's the matter-?" She looked over at Jared, the blanket still in her hands. "Is this your old baby blanket or something-?" She asked, a confused yet teasing grin tugging at her lips.

"... ¿qué?" Emi asked, blinking owlishly at Jared as the blanket was suddenly removed from her hold. "The what Maker?" She repeated, now looking at him as though her boyfriend had gone insane in what was most definitely a millisecond.

Absently, her fingers reached up to sweep away her mused bangs as she continued to stare at Jared in confusion. "What in the world are you talking about-?"

Emi was conflicted.

She didn't know whether to laugh at Jared and tease him carefully, or if she should believe him. Because, if she were to be honest with herself, similar things had been done in her family that did result in what they had been originally intended for. But even Emi, as superstitious as she often was, wasn't sure to believe her boyfriend and his could-be-silly tale.

"You said they get the blanket after a couple gets married," Emi spoke up after a moments pause. "But why would your mother give us the blanket when we've been dating for close to half a year now. We're not even engaged." Her fingertips tapped against her chin lightly, expression suddenly thoughtful. "Though, that reminds me - did we remember to use protection last night?"

Emi kept her expression innocent as she waited for Jared to respond.

Oh, maybe she shouldn't tease so much...but sometimes she couldn't help herself, really.

A roll of her eyes was all the answer she gave him as Emi tugged the bedsheets to the side, motioning for Jared to get back into bed. "Okay, okay. I believe you. Just hurry up, yeah? It's getting cold and we don't have to go exploring again for another few hours~"

Given that they only had less than two days left in Miami, they made sure to not stay inside for too long before heading out again. Another day at the beach, a quick shower, and off to dinner they went, the blanket all but forgotten. And it stayed that way even after they got back to their hotel room to finish the day, or night, off in, ah, bedWith a somewhat sleepy yet pleased murmur, Emi shifted closer to Jared, her bare legs intertwined with his. She pressed a quick kiss against his chest as her arm reached out to pull the blanket further up. At the feel of a somewhat different texture, however, Emi paused, momentarily confused ( ... )
