He tossed one last log into the fireplace before retreating to his spot beside Gupta on the sofa, the classy piece of furniture it was with its trimming the color of gold. The apartment was overwhelmingly luxurious, and something he was hardly accustomed to after leaving Turkey and his own extravagant family that nested there. Wealth didn't intimidate him; it was just alien after so many years of avoiding it.
Regardless, even while sitting in front of a cackling fire that was sure to feel like the warmth of one-thousand suns within the next few minutes, his boyfriend still found himself wrapped in possibly the largest and thickest comforter Sadiq had ever seen -- and let us not forget the heater was turned up enough to bring his energy bill up a few extra zero's. It was almost ridiculous the lengths Gupta went to, just to stay warm. And even then, this could hardly be considered anything short of sitting in a broiler, as Sadiq felt as if he was baking in his own skin; surely he'd be taking several "smoking" breaks to get some fresh air tonight. Behind it all, the older man was beginning to wonder if this was all part of Gupta's grand scheme to make him die an early death.
He saved himself from joining Gupta beneath the blankets, and simply propped his legs up on the coffee table instead. The TV mounted above the fireplace displayed Time Square and the thousands of people and celebrities he didn't know. Sadiq was more interested in his light bottle of beer, which he snatched off of the end table (and which he had to bring himself, because he didn't trust the other to possess any alcohol). He took his keys out of his pocket and popped the cap off with hardly a flick of the wrist, then took a hearty swig.
"I bet you have more fun celebrating New Years in Egypt with your friends, eh?" He broke the amiable silence first, which was the normal. "You guys do much for the holiday when your mom's here?"
