[This is it. Your last chance. There’s no going back after this. There is no following round to strive for, no slim chance that you’ll escape both your teammates’ and the wolves’ eyes.
It’s either live or die.
It’s amazing (nauseating) how many chances you’ve had so far. And how every one of those missed opportunities spelled someone’s death. You’ve screwed up so many times (killed so many innocents) and you’re positive that you don’t deserve this last one. Not like the young Peter or the sincere Zhi.
But for some reason you’re still here - whether by dumb luck or providence. You’re still alive.
You still wonder if that’s a good thing.
You’ve come so far and lost so much and gained so little. You’re not sure if there’s anything left to lose. You feel battered, emotionally and physically and you know whatever happens next will surely break you into fragments.
But still. This is the last time, you tell yourself. Whatever decision you make, it’ll be all over soon. And if that means not leaving this building alive, so be it.
You just want this to be done with.
